Boston out to reclaim glory

BOSTON from Raiwaqa will be out to reclaim lost glory when they enter this weekend's National Basketball Club Championship in Lautoka.

Boston was once the champion club in the national competition in the 1980s and early ‘90s.

This weekend the club will regroup to try and make their mark at winning the inaugural club championships.

Boston player Waisea Dau said they had been training hard in the past weeks because they wanted to take the team back to its champion days.

Dau said the team to play in the tournament consisted of players who once played for Boston in their glory days and some young and upcoming players.

"The team will be led by some former Boston players like Apenisa Tuimabualau, Solo Namalo, Etuate Waqairawai, Akuila, Eroni Cinavi and the evergreen J Bubu," Dau said

"The core of this team has been playing together during our weekly Raiwaqa competition and also during some basketball competitions organised this year."

Dau said they wanted to take Boston back into the top of local basketball.

"That has been our aim all along and we hope to finish well at this club championship," Dau said.

Boston has produced top players like Tuvili Cinavi, Solo Doko, Tunai Waqairawai, Tomasi Bulai, Sowane Tamani, Peniasi Kainamoli, Allan Williams among others.

The one-day National Club Championship starts on Saturday morning at the Lautoka Multi-purpose Courts.
