Fiji U20 Basketball Teams impresses in Fiji Games

The National U20 Youth Basketball Teams who participated in the Fiji Games in Lautoka on June 12th, 2010 raised a lot of eye brows after a very impressive outing in the Fiji Basketball Inter-Association Games which feature 9 men's & 8 women's all star teams. In the women's competition Fiji U20 White lead by Vika Fifita and lost 42-35 to a star studded Valeria Nanima lead Raiwaqa Red in the Gold/ Silver Medal Playoff. In the women's bronze medal playoffs Fiji U20 Black lead by Grace Taito defeated Nadi All-Stars 46 - 34 to winning the Bronze Medal. The National U20 Women's Head Coach Saula Koroi was very impressed with the performance of all the players who all have shown improvement over the recent months. The Fiji Games also served as a trial for the National U20 Men's & Women's Squad which will see the 35 member squad trimmed to 20 players. In the men's competition the Isireli Vuetibau lead Fiji U20 White defeated Lautoka One 45-33 to winning the bronze medal in a very tough pool of competition. The Paul Whippy Coached Suva Blues defeated a star studded Raiwaqa Red 39 -15 to winning the gold medal.  Tournament coordinator Laisiasa Puamau was very impressed with high level of skills displayed during the one day event. He also thanked the parents for volunteering their time to cook for their respective teams, Natabua High School Committee for accommodating the participating teams from Suva, Lautoka Basketball Associations for assisting in organizing the event, the excutive teams from the various associations, Crest Chicken for the donation of two cartons of sausages and FASANOC for their financial contribution towards the events.
