Arch rivals Marist, Grammar clash

Marist Brothers’ High School and Suva Grammar School will battle it out in the feature match of round two of the Suva Secondary Schools basketball competition today. The Under-19 boys from Flagstaff who finished runners-up behind Yat Sen Secondary School in 2009, are considered a strong contender in their division. “Marist, over the years, has established themselves as a traditional basketball powerhouse,” Basketball Fiji development officer and tournament official, Laisiasa Puamau said. Last year the team lost to YSS who are the current defending U-19 champions,” he said. However, Puamau has not ruled out a tit-for-tat match from Suva Grammar. “The SGS team comprise of players who have been part of the system since the junior grades. “I believe they are capable of providing a good challenge,” Puamau said. The must-see encounter is scheduled for 4.10pm at the Marist Lambert Hall.

Meanwhile, Adi Cakobau School lead the girls division alongside LDS, while Marist and Yat Sen top the boys table after round one.
