Fiji Men's and Women's Team loses in Semi-finals

Both the Fiji men’s and women’s basketball teams exited the Pacific Games after losing its semifinal matches against New Caledonia and Guam respectively. 

The men’s team, who were the defending champions, struggled against Guam, trailing in all four quarters, eventually losing 57-51.

The women’s team had a strong game, tying in the first quarter 17-all and leading at halftime 34-29. 

The third quarter saw hosts New Caledonia narrow the points by one point, still Fiji with the lead 41-40.

The last quarter was the decider, Fiji tried to hold on to the lead but New Caledonia bagged 16 points as opposed to Fiji’s nine points and won the game 56-50.

In the bronze medal men's playoff the Tahitian men overcome reigning champions Fiji to win the bronze medal, 57 points to 49.  In a low scoring game, with the lead changing many times, the Tahitians were able to take the win with good performances in the last 2 quarters of the game.  Fiji were ahead at quarter and half time, but at three quarter time Tahiti was up by 4 points, and finished the game 8 points ahead. 

The Fiji women's basketball team won the bronze medal, defeating Samoa 64 points to 51. Letava Whippy had a 'double double' in the game, scoring 20 points, and pulling in 12 rebounds.  Millie Koyamainavure put in 17 for Fiji.  Ilona Silva topscored for Samoa with 18 points. Fiji led at every quarter, by 7 at quarter and half time, then by 11 at three quarter time and 13 by the end of the game.
