Support for national basketball teams

THE national men's and women's basketball teams received a timely boost ahead of their departure for the Oceania Pacific Championships in Wellington, New Zealand next week.

Coca-Cola Amatil Fiji (CCAF) donated sporting gear and uniforms under the Powerade brand for the week-long competition.

Women's team captain Dale Wise Sauqaqa said they were ready for the tournament and were targeting a top three finish.

"We are entering this competition ranked fifth and our mission for the tournament is to compete for the top three positions," she said. "We are prepared and confident to finish in the spot we finished in last year.

"We are very thankful to Powerade for supporting us and their backing has boosted the morale in the teams as we prepare to leave to New Zealand."

CCAF new general manager Steven Jowell wished the team well for their competition.

"We are confident that with the skills and training that you have done the team will have a great tournament," he said.

Fiji men's team manager Jim Tora said they would make Powerade and the country proud at the event.

"Rest assured that the two teams have been training very well and are prepared for the task at hand," he said.

The men's team is pooled with New Caledonia, Samoa and New Zealand Maori whilst the women's team is pooled with Australia, New Caledonia and Guam.

The team departs for Wellington next Wednesday.
