Support for Basketball

BLK has made a pledge to expand their support of sports outside rugby starting with basketball.

BLK general manager Josefa Matau made the comment during their sponsorship signing with Basketball Fiji for the 2014 FIBA Oceania Under-19 Basketball Championships scheduled for December 1-6 in Suva.

"This is the first time for BLK to sponsor basketball," Matau said.

"We promise to support other sports in the country and not just rugby.

We're proud of our involvement with BAsketball Fiji as they're an incredibly dedicated and well-organised organisation.

"We will provide the latest apparel for the teams to wear which we hope will boost their performance.

This is a historic event and one which will uplift and boost basketball in the country. We wish team Fiji all the best in the competition."

Basketball Fiji president Major-General Ioane Naivalurua welcomed BLK's assistance reminding the U19 men and women's teams of the importance of the competition.

"It's abotu building you, improving you and taking you to higher levels and making you a better person at the end of the day," he said.

"The purpose of us to be here with you is to support you and prepare you not only for the championship but make sure you're a better person.

"Basketball is a tool we use to make you a better person and that is our primary objective. We thank BLK for their historic sponosrship and we look forward to continuing this and we welcome their promise to extend their support to other sports."

Tanoa Plaza Hotel general manager Mere Rakoroi also presented a cheque on behalf of the Reddy Group.

BLK presented the teams with their official uniforms and training gear for the 2014 FIBA Oceania Under-19 Basketball Championships.
