AYAD for Fiji selected

Mark had played to the Australian level as a junior, representing New South Wales in the State Schoolboys team as well as the NSW Metropolitan team.  He has played in Australia's 2nd highest tiered competition, the ABA.

Mark has conducted coaching clinics and holiday camps, he has coached junior representative teams in the strong Sydney Metropolitan Championships  and has worked with disabled basketballers in the Special Olympics program.

Mark has experience in Auslan, Australia's sign language for the deaf, and is keen to see if a basketball program could be introduced into the Suva Deaf School.

Over the past 12 months Mark has been backpacking around South America, an experience that has enabled him to meet people from many different cultures and backgrounds. This adventure, plus his interest and comittment to basketball make him an ideal AYAD.

Special Projects Manager from FIBA Oceania said "Mark comes with the highest references from very experienced basketball people in New South Wales.  He is certainly a young man who has already managed to fit alot of things into a short life, and I expect that his enthusiasm and motivation will be a great boost to basketball in Fiji.  We hope that the AYAD application for a Basketball Development Officer in Fiji will be approved, and once that happens it will be 'full steam ahead' in training Mark a little more before the September departure."

"Interesting that during the interview with Mark it was discovered that he had played against our son Michael in State competition in 2001.  Basketball sure is a small world, even in big Australia", Judy said.
