$5000 boost for B'ball Fiji

BASKETBALL Fiji yesterday received a hefty $5000 from the sponsors for next week's National Secondary Schools Basketball Championship. Basketball Fiji development officer Laisiasa Puamau thanked Twisties for their timely assistance which will be used to cater for the high cost of venue hiring, payment of match officials and assistance with the transportation of West-based teams. General manager of Twisties, Shaun Joils said Twisties was proud and excited to partner with Basketball Fiji for the second year. The Twisties National Secondary Schools Basketball Championship runs for three days beginning on Monday. The Championships include schools from the central and western divisions. "Twisties are all about having fun and excitement and we know the school Basketballers will have heaps of fun and excitement during this tournament," Puamau said. At the top of the list, leading the U19 boys division is Marist Brothers High who defeated Yat Sen in the last pools games last week. Newcomers, Adi Cakobau School are topping the scoreboard with defending champions Latter Day Saints College in second place. In the U17 grade, Yat Sen is leading with newcomers John Wesley in second place and for the girls division, LDS tops the board with Saint Joseph's Secondary School second. In the U15 grades, Yat Sen is leading the boys and the girls sections. Eleven teams will be traveling from the West with defending champion Natabua coming to defend its title. The team is led by last year's national netball trialist and basketball U21 rep Leba Korovou.

Twisties general manager Shaun Joils said they were proud and excited to partner Basketball Fiji for the second year. The Twisties National Secondary Schools Basketball Championship runs for 3 days beginning on the August 30. The Championships include schools from the Central and Western Divisions of Fiji. A total of 47 teams have confirmed participation in what will be the biggest organised basketball tournament in the country.
