Fiji earns semis spot

The Fiji Under-19 basketball team defeated Samoa 88-65 in the quarterfinal at Churchill Centre, Melbourne Australia on Thursday.
And the women have also qualified for the semifinal. Both teams were scheduled to play Australia last night.
Filimoni Seru stood out in the first half with his 16 points and eight steals which set the platform for victory.
Fiji was impressive but Samoa’s sharp shooting from long range kept them in the game. Fiji led 24-18 at halftime.
Pita Sowakula was top scorer for Fiji with 21 points and Mataika Koyamainavure assisted with his 17 points in the second half.
Basketball Fiji development officer Laisiasa Puamau said both teams played well.
“They have really worked hard as our aim is to reach the semifinals,”Puamau said.
“I salute these young players for their hard work, they really tried hard.
“We can see it in their faces, they played according to plan and they were good.
“We want to acknowledge our supporters from Fiji and in Australia for their support.”
