Leivilo nails winner for Namoli

JOELI Leivilo scored the winner for Namoli against Blue Devils to hand his side the men's title during the Pacific Energy-sponsored Lautoka Basketball League competition at the Sugar City multipurpose courts on Saturday.

Namoli defeated Blue Devils 37-36 in an exciting final.

Leivilo, the oldest player in the Namoli team, nailed the winning goal late in the match. Jale Vunisa, the LBL secretary top scored for Blue Devils in the match claiming 17 points. Maikeli Rasoki top scored for Namoli with eight points.

In the semi-finals Namoli beat Veterans 40-24 while Blue Devils defeated Cougars 41-31 in extra time after both teams were locked 31-all at full-time.

Tribal won the women's title. The side defeated Cougars 30-28 in the final. Ana Tora starred for Tribal scoring 15 points.

Vunisa said the tournament served as a good hit out before the Easter Championship next week.

"We would like to thank Pacific Energy for sponsoring the tournament," he said.

"Interest in the tournament was high. We saw some close matches. The teams will now prepare for the Easter Championship, there after the focus will shift to the Fiji Games in May."
