School Basketball Hypes Up

IN a bid to build up the hype before the Fiji Secondary Schools Basketball Championships, Basketball Fiji (BF) decided to start the Home and Away competition.

BF development officer Apenisa Naitini said the Tuckers Ice Cream-sponsored competition got underway today and concludes in August.

"The Home and Away Competition is a build-up to the annual Tuckers Fiji Secondary School Basketball Championships in August," he said.

"It will also be a base to build up to the FIBA U19 Oceania Championships to be held in Fiji in December this year."

Naitini said competition would be played in both the Central and the Western divisions.

"The annual event has been extended to not only the Central Division but also the Western Division.

"Last year we had a total of 63 teams participating and this year we are looking to increase the number to 71 teams."

Games would be held at Ed's Court in Raiwaqa today, at the Yat Sen Secondary School and Jai Narayan College tomorrow.

Meanwhile, open trials to select a team for the FIBA U19 Oceania Championships would be held this Saturday at FMF Gymnasium from 9am to midday.
