Basketball Fiji holds staff workshop

Basketball Fiji held a staff training workshop last Friday its current staff and its new Hoops for Health coaches at Basketball Fiji’s Head Office in Laucala Bay. The training was conducted by Oceania Sport Education Program (OSEP) Master Educator Talemo Waqa with the assistance of Basketball Fiji’s Vice President Ned Taito and Chief Operating Officer Laisasa Puamau.

The purpose of the workshop was to help the staff understand the key procedures as well as Basketball Fiji's three year strategic plan. The workshop gave all participants a chance to express where they thought Basketball Fiji was heading and what they could contribute to help Basketball Fiji reach its goals and targets.

The Hoops for Health coaches run all of Basketball Fiji's school and community clinics, which makes them the face of Basketball Fiji at the community level. It was important for them to have an understanding of their major role in Basketball Fiji's objectives in promoting the sport at the community level. So far the coaches have reached over 10,000 primary school students with their coaching clinics in the last three months.

Basketball Fiji's Development Manager Saula Koroi had this to say about the workshop. "It was good to have this workshop to help refresh the minds of our current staff as well introducing the new coaches to the goals of Basketball Fiji, it was also a way for all of us to see that we are working together on achieving the same goal"

Basketball Fiji would like to thank Master Educator Talemo Waqa for facilitating the workshop, it proved to be a great success and all staff are thankful for the opportunity.
