AUSTRALIAN OPALS COACH TO VISIT FIJI

Coach Stirling is one of the most experienced women's basketball coaches in the world and her presence in Suva with the Squad will be a highlight of their program as they prepare for the tournament in Madrid.  In addition to winning the gold medal at the 2006 World Championships, Coach Stirling has also coached the Australian Women's Basketball Team to silver medals at the Olympic Games and previous World Championships.

National Women's Team Head Coach, Michael Whippy said "we commenced negotiations with Coach Stirling to come to Fiji following our participation in the FIBA Oceania Women's Championships in Dunedin last year and she has generously offered her time in spite of a hectic schedule in preparing the Opals for the Olympic Games in Beijing.  This is a rare opportunity for our players to work with such an experienced and high profile coach".
Coach Whippy also said that he was hopeful that Coach Stirling would return in May to work with the final team but that this would depend on Coach Stirling's Australian Team commitments at that time.
