CLOSING CEREMONY AT OYT

The teams marched into the UOG Fieldhouse escorted by local youth dressed in traditional attire.  The Fiji flag was carried proudly into the gym by the boys.  Following the medal presentations to the women's and men's teams, the various dignatories were introduced and spoke briefly to the teams.

The following were the medallists in the women's competition - Australia GOLD, Tahiti SILVER and Fiji BRONZE.  In the men's competition they were - Australia GOLD, Tahiti SILVER and Guam BRONZE.

FIBA Oceania Secretary General, Steve Smith announced that the 8th Oceania Youth Basketball Tournament would be held in New Caledonia in October, 2010.  New Caledonia will be the venue for the next Pacific Games in 2011 and so the OYT will be a test event to prepare for that.   

The ceremony ended with more traditional dancing by a local dance group.  In the tradition of basketball tournaments. the players then mingled and said their good byes to the many friends that they had made during the past week.

For the Fiji teams it was then back to the Ohana Resort, a quick meal and then locate all their gear and onto a bus by 12.00pm to go to the airport.
