Two of a kind

AGNES and Peniasi Sokosoko are siblings who referee basketball games at Ed's court in their neighborhood, Raiwaqa.

Both were part of the winning national team at the South Pacific Games in Samoa last year. They returned with gold medals making Fiji proud.

"To achieve something like that for the country with my brother alongside me was great and memorable," said Agnes. "Raiwaqa has always been famous for basketball and many national players came from Raiwaqa," Agnes said.

At the moment the siblings have their sights on helping in the development of the Raiwaqa association.

"Raiwaqa is the heart of basketball," she said. She said it was about time the boys decided to do something about the ailing sport. She can still remember waking up every Saturday morning to the sound of the whistle from the courts.

"Our parents were an influencing factor in our basketball lives when we were young and since then we have always played basketball with a passion," she continued.

They both are concentrating on helping around with the basketball boys and improving their skills. The basketball fever has been very contagious and everyone is involved in cleaning the court and its surroundings and also being available for training.

The school holiday serves to their advantage as the children volunteer to help out with anything.
