GUAM HOOPS ACADEMY HELPS YOUTH PLAYERS

The Guam Basketball Confederation is excited to announce The Guam Hoops Academy, a series of clinics for young basketball players from Guam and the region.

The first session of the summer will be held from June 3rd through 5th at the FD Phoenix Center in Mangilao from 1pm - 4pm daily. Young basketball players from 8 years old through 18 can register online at guamhoopsacademy.com.

Michael Sakazaki, Assistant Program Director, said, "We are bringing Coach Brandon Loyd from the University of Hawaii, Manoa assistant coach and player development. He is a two time Oklahoma State High School player of the year as well as a blue chip elite player. He played at UCLA under a famous point guard that you all may know Baron Davis. Coach Brandon Loyd will be assisted by the men's senior and women's senior national team preparing to go to the South Pacific Games this summer. The kids can look forward to 3 things. One is the development Coach Loyd is going to teach them the skills and how to get them to the next level. Nowadays the game is a fast paced game so he is going to teach them how to be competitive but yet the proper form and technique as well as be recruited. My own experience I had to create mix tapes and download them on youtube and email the coaches. But coach Loyd and assistant coach at the University of Hawaii he can really teach you what it takes to get to the next level and how to get recruited and to show off your talent."

Each session is $40 per player total...with a special of $200 for 6 players registering together online at once. Space is limited, so players are encouraged to register as soon as possible before this camp is full.

Sakazaki said, "We have 4 divisions, elementary, middle school, junior varsity and varsity. With the elementary we will be teaching the fundamentals basically the back bone of basketball which is dribbling, passing and communication. Middle school will be taking it a notch high with the same thing but a little more fast paced. And when we get to the jv and varsity is how to compete in a high school level setting with more pick and rolls and motion offense and man to man defense. So it's really taking it a notch higher and also taking it to the next level which is college in terms of trying to get to that college skill and play."
