The Solomon Islands Basketball Federation Special AGM was held on Thursday 13th August at the Solomon Host Meeting Room, NPF Plaza. The meeting was held to report on the last year of federation activities, approve new membership applications and elect officers to the vacant
positions of President and Vice-President.

The SIBF is please to announce that D-Fenders Basketball is the newest member Association of the Solomon Islands Basketball Federation after its application for membership was met with no objections. Many are aware of the D-Fenders constant Training and Practice regime on Sunday afternoons at the Woodford International School and Wednesday evenings at the Multi-Purpose Hall. Additionally to this they were the hosts of the Telekom Easter Basketball Tournament that was held earlier this year. D-Fenders Basketball have been welcomed to the
SIBF family.

Due to the recent resignation of previous SIBF President Ms. Freda Matangi, the President and Vice-President positions of the Federation had been vacant. The Special AGM was held to address this issue by electing new office bearers. 3 of the 4 affiliated members of the SIBF
were in attendance, Honiara Basketball League, Bellona Basketball Association and DFenders Basketball Association. Representatives from Auki Basketball Association were unable to attend and sent their apologies.

The Solomon Islands Basketball Federation is pleased to announce that Mr. Don Boykin has been elected to the position of President, with Mr. Eric Chow being elected to the position of Vice-President.

The Meeting was chaired and overseen by visiting FIBA Oceania Zone Development Officer Mr. Ryan Burns who is in the country until Tuesday 18th August before heading to Vanuatu. After the meeting Mr. Ryan Burns said that “it is pleasing to see the affiliated members of the

Federation in attendance at the meeting and well supported. I would like congratulate DFenders Basketball for joining the SIBF as the newest member and I am looking forward to the upcoming basketball activities that the SIBF will be preparing for, such as the upcoming

FIBA Oceania Youth Tournament in New Caledonia 2010.”
