Samoa win gold in women's competition

The game commenced at a fast pace, with both teams tryng to assert their authority on the match. Defence was a feature of the game, reflected in the relatively low score of the game.

The first quarter score had Samoa ahead 17 points to 11, but Fiji took the second quarter 13 points to 8. Samoa led by just 1 point at half time. In the third quarter Samoa went another basketball ahead, giving them the 3 point lead that they maintained till the final whistle.

Samoa's captain-coach Wendy Anae led her team by example, settling the team when the pace of the game was not going their way. Hedy Liu was Samoa's top pointscorer with 12 points and highest rebounder with an amazing 19 rebounds.
Monarisa Ale with 11 and April Atuaia with 10 contributed to the scoring.

Mikaelar Whippy continued her domination of the baskets, contributing 18 of Fiji's 44 points. Mareta Mani put in 13 points, and was Fiji's best rebounder with 14.
