Identifying needs of the communities

FSM, Palau and Marshall Islands sport administrators met today, Monday 21 May 2012, at the ONOC office to prepare for the sport participant survey that will be conducted in each country this year. 

FSM, Palau and Marshall Islands sport administrators met today, Monday 21 May 2012, at the ONOC office to prepare for the sport participant survey that will be conducted in each country this year.

The purpose of this exercise is to identify the sport participants in each country and develop a country specific sport participant model.  This will better understand sport and other partners role in developing sport for development initiatives and its linkages to programs in the sport for performance sector.

With this given data, it will assist a second project team under OSEP develop the Sport Volunteers and Professionals Competency framework.  The Competency framework is designed to provide an overview of the key competencies for sport volunteers and professionals like administrators, coaches and technical officials.


The one-day session included an:

  1. overview of the project,
  2. country reports and
  3. finalising the process of data gathering

The participants include Dr Denis Mowbray (team leader), Jubilee Kuartei (Palau), Cassidy Shoniber/Castro Joab/Mike Loyola of FSM, Amy Sasser and Dimitrius Tarkwon of RMI and Jeremy Dorovolomo.  Nadia Bleaken of Oceania Badminton joined the team as an observer.
