Iliesa Delana

Iliesa Delana, 26, competes in the F42 category High Jump and is Fiji’s most successful Paralympic athlete to date. Delana regularly trains for and competes in National, Regional and International Competitions, and has competed in the Fiji National Paralympic Games, FESPIC Games, World Paralympic Championships and the Arafura Games.

In January 2011, Delana created history by winning a Silver Medal at the World Paralympic Championships held in Christchurch, New Zealand. This achievement was the best ever from a Fiji Paralympic athlete. Delana jumped 1.73 metres behind Guo Weizhong of China who took gold with a jump of 1.76 meters. This performance qualified Delana with a place in the 2012 Paralympics Championships in London.

Outside of competition, Delana works as a Customer Care agent for Digicel Fiji as well as volunteering his time as a Sports Ambassador for the Fiji Paralympic Committee. As a sports Ambassador, Delana regularly visits schools and communities in Fiji to talk about his experiences, and to promote a positive attitude towards people with disabilities.
