All You Need To Know

The first matches took place on Saturday on the Rivière-Salée and PLGC football pitches (Nouméa) and Boewa Stadium in Mont-Dore

Ladies first! There were two women’s games at PLGC. PNG beat Tahiti 1-0, and New Caledonia beat the ladies from the Solomon Islands 3-0.
As for the boys, they played two matches in Mont-Dore. In the first one, PNG beat the Cook Islands 4-0. In the second game, Fiji played Tahiti. The Fijians won 3-0.
In Rivière Salée, the sun shone on a good spectator turn-out for the opening day of football preliminary heats. Here are the Rivière Salée results:

  • Tuvalu beat Samoa 4-0: A game full of opportunities, both teams being cheered on by singing in the terraces. Tuvalu held the fort thanks to a solid defence and an agile attack, despite much work by the Samoans.
  • Solomon Islands beat Guam 7-0: Easily dominated by the Solomon Islanders, the team from Guam gave their all right to the end.
  • New Caledonia beat Vanuatu 5-0: For their first game, a New Caledonia team in great shape was cheered on its way by a crowd of supporters. They were able to take advantage of some mistakes, but Vanuatu didn’t give very much away.
