B-W.F.C. 2015 Annual General Meeting
Birchip-Watchem Football Club held its 2015 Annual General Meeting at the Birchip Community Leisure Centre on Tuesday, October 20.
President Lachlan Barber welcomed over twenty club members and supporters to the meeting and spoke fondly of his first year in office in his president’s report. Lachlan thanked and congratulated his committee members who he found to be a very close knit and productive group. He felt that the atmosphere around the club had been exceptional throughout the season and that all on the committee made a worthwhile contribution.
Lachlan said that having all four football teams play finals in 2015 was excellent, and while the senior and reserves teams were disappointed to bow out in the first semi final, it was very pleasing to have both junior teams play in the grand final. He hopes the success of the Bulls’ juniors will translate into a greater number of young local players in the senior team in the coming years.
With the football club highly reliant on farm income, Lachlan mentioned that another drought has made things tougher financially. However he was hopeful that things will turn around in that regard in 2016.
Finally, Lachlan gave thanks to his executive for their assistance throughout the season and to all who had made Birchip-Watchem an enjoyable club to be a part of.
Tara Sharp delivered the treasurer’s report which indicated that the club is in a solid financial position. The generosity of the club’s supporters was evident in the report, with membership and gate takings higher than the previous year and and the profit made from the annual Goods & Services Auction exemplary. Special mention was also made of the B-W.F.C. Ladies’ Committee’s generous donation of $22,000.
Following this Kevin Delaney took the chair and acknowledged the efforts of Lachlan and the committee in 2015 as well as the endeavour and commitment of both local and travelling players. Kevin expressed his hope for greater on-field success for the Bulls in 2016 before declaring all executive positions vacant.
Shortly after, it was announced that all members of the B-W.F.C. executive for 2015 would continue in their roles for the 2016 season. Lachlan Barber will serve a second year as president, Jim Sheahan will continue as senior vice-president, Andrew Frank as junior vice-president, Stephanie Coffey as secretary and Mark Bowen as football manager. Former club treasurer Gareth Webb was nominated and accepted a position on the general committee after a brief absence.
The meeting was then called closed, leading into a general meeting. The off-season efforts of senior coach Tom Carland and the recruiting sub-committee were among the topics discussed as well as the upcoming 30-year reunion of the 1986 Birchip seniors and Watchem-Corack reserves premiership sides. Overall, the evening fostered great enthusiasm for season 2016 for the Birchip-Watchem Football Club.
