2016 - R3 v Wycheproof Narraport
Thank you to all Bulls players and supporters who attended the annual Player’s Auction at the Leisure Centre last Saturday. Nearly $15,000 was raised on the night – an excellent result.
Seniors
Earlier in the afternoon, our seniors were outdone by a very impressive Wycheproof-Narraport lineup. A strong breeze favoured the southern end of the ground and the Demons took full advantage of it in the first quarter, kicking eight unanswered goals to put the game in their keeping early. To our boys’ credit they put together some good passages of play at different stages, but it wasn’t enough to take the points. The result was a 51-point victory to our nearest neighbours. “Fridge” Sirett had another great game in the ruck, which helped him to earn the highest bid at the Players’ Auction. Awards: Lochlan Sirett (Donnellons' Bulk Haulage), Daniel Ratcliffe (Landmark), Connor Walsh(Bowens' Commercial Hotel), Michael Monteith (Birchip Hotel), Nathan Doble (Mlldura Finance), Joel Greaney (Birchip Motel).
Reserves
The reserves put up a much more competitive performance against Wyche., proving that there is still plenty for coach Brad Ryan to work with going forward. The Bulls were right in it up until the final quarter when the Demons were able to run away with the game and win by 27-points. Matt Ryan has been a great asset on his return to the club this year, and young James Paley was spritely up forward kicking three goals in his first foray into the senior ranks. Awards: Matt Ryan (Donnellons' Bulk Haulage), Tom Brain (Bowens' Commercial Hotel), Luke Sheather (Birchip Hotel), James Paley (Bourkes' Butchers), Billy Noonan (Birchip Hardware), Mitch Barry (Birchip Motel).
U13s
Courtesy of no U16s game being played, the U13s enjoyed a later than usual start time of 11:10am. Many Bulls followers who are often unable to see the Calves in action enjoyed having the opportunity to see them play. It was the Demons who had the better start, kicking the first two goals of the match, but from the second quarter onwards Birchip-Watchem dominated. Will Hogan and Patrick Sheahan kicked four and two goals respectively to help their team to a 43-point victory. No individual awards were handed out as the coaches lauded the game a great team effort.

Next Saturday we are eager to get back on the winners list when we take on the Magpies. It seems like an eternity since our senior footballers last played at Boort Park, all the way back in Round 1 last year. Here’s hoping it will be an enjoyable return! On your way home, please stop in at the Birchip Hotel. We also wish the Hockey Club the best for their annual Mothers’ Day Luncheon on Sunday. A great day is sure to be had by all that attend.
