Seniors
A true winter’s day greeted us at George Cartwright Oval where we took on Donald for the second time this season. The seniors ground out a solid victory against a competitive Donald team. The game was tightly fought in the first half with the Bulls maintaining a narrow lead throughout. To add to the icy temperatures and bitter winds, rain began falling in the third-quarter and tested the players’ resolves. To the Bulls’ credit they stepped up their game, finishing with six unanswered goals in the final term to win by 49 points. Reserves
The conditions also contributed to a hard slog in the reserves, but the Bulls fought hard to keep Donald goalless after quarter-time and win by 22 points. Jules Liston continues to impress and is one of many putting their hand up for a promotion to seniors if the opportunity arises. U16s
The U16s was arguably the match of the day. Taking on the top-of-the-table Royal Blues, the Bulls had a fabulous start and led by 28 points at half time. Donald stormed home to narrow the margin to less than a goal in the in the final minutes. Junior president “Wobbly” was a bundle of nerves on the hill before a Bodie Colbert goal just before the siren sealed a 9-point victory for the Bulls. U13s
A strong Donald line-up defeated our U13 team by 46 points. The Lewis brothers were among the best for the Calves. Netball
It was a tough day for the Bulls on the netball courts with all teams going down to Donald. Some results were close, with both A Grade and C Grade only a few goals away, but it wasn’t enough. The Bulls got off to a strong start in the A Grade match, but some unforced errors let Donald back into the game. Donald’s lead was as big as six goals but a late rally saw the Bulls narrow it to two goals before the final whistle blew. Results and Awards: A Grade: B-W 42 def by Donald 44. Hockey
On the hockey field the women had their biggest win of the season while the U15s also got the chocolates. Men lost 6-1. Goal scorer: Matt Wheeler. Awards: James Paley (Greg’s Digging), Jeremy Dean (Mallee Branded & Smale Farm Equipment), Jack Trollope (BWFC Ladies). Women won 5-0. Goal scorers: Chloe Gleeson 2, Fiona Best, Steph Coffey, Megan Berry. Awards: Fiona Best (Birchip Café), Talei Brooks (Bales Garage), Hannah Cook (BWFC Ladies). Under 15 won 4-0. Goal scorers: Darcy Reid 3, Bridie Reid 1. Awards: Talei Brooks (Hogan’s Transport), Hannah Cook (Paul & Cathy Lowry and Mallee Branded), Cameron Darby (Bowens’ Sports Store), Under 12 lost 2-0.
