Seniors
In the senior football St. Arnaud fielded a vastly different line-up to the team Birchip-Watchem faced back in Round 7. The Bulls were unperturbed, playing an excellent game to win by 76 points. On the scoreboard the third quarter was the highlight with the Bulls outscoring the Saints 8 goals to 1. Coach Sirett led from the front in a strong ruckman’s performance. The Lynch twins also had solid games, while Jak Goldsmith slotted in well in his first senior game for the season. Reserves
With a top two finish assured for the reserves, St. Arnaud was the first of three top four opponents they would face in the final three home-and-away rounds. On this occasion it was the Saints who came out on top, defeating the Bulls by ten points. Plenty to be learned from the match, onward and upward. U16s
The U16s had a resounding 91-point victory over the reigning premiers. Jonty Randall enjoyed his switch to the forward line kicking seven goals, while Will Sheahan backed up his two goal effort with another two majors in the reserves game. U13s
The Saints took the spoils in the U13s game, defeating the Calves by 34 points. Nevertheless, our team is showing plenty of improvement with their skills and teamwork. Netball
On the netball court the A and C Grades needed to win to keep their finals hopes alive and both triumphed. U13A faced an unbeaten St Arnaud line up and did not hold back, at the end of the first quarter scores were tied. The Saints then started to draw clear from the smaller Bulls side, but not without impressive passages of play and accurate shooting from Jenna Angel (GS) and Ebony Frank (GA). This coupled with strong defence from Emma Theoharethes meant that although being beaten by 12 goals, the Bulls scored 21 of their own - their highest score this season. Hockey
On the hockey field St. Arnaud had the better of the Bulls results-wise, but our two senior teams put in arguably their strongest performances of the year. Sitting seventh on the ladder, the Bulls men led the undefeated until late in the match when the Saints scored an equaliser. The women were also competitive against the higher placed St. Arnaud, the scores locked at 2-2 before the Saints hit a match winning goal. Men drew 2-2. Goal scorers: Andrew Clark, Matt Wheeler. Awards: Andrew Clark (Greg’s Digging), Mark Trollope (Smale Farm Equipment & Mallee Branded), Trayden Tonso (Birchip Hotel). Women lost 3-2. Goal scorers: Mikaela Christie, Steph Coffey. Awards: Nicole Clark (Bales Garage), Genevieve Clarke (O’Donnell’s Café), Bridie Reid (Birchip Café). U15 lost 4-2. Goal scorer: Will Hogan 2. Awards: Talei Brooks (Andy & Sarah Barber), Tadgh Lowry (O’Connors & Mallee Branded), Xavier Lewis (Bowen’s Sports Store). U12 lost 2-0. Awards: Samuel Hogan (Hogan’s Transport), Hannah Kemp (A&S Barber & Mallee Branded), Archie Lewis (Sharp’s Bakery). Two games of minkey were played with awards going to Anthony Rigby (Birchip IGA), Charlie Barber (GWM Water), Eliza Gould (Paul & Cathy Lowry), Gracie Ferrier (BWFC Ladies).
