Kudos to all who plied their trade for the Bulls at St. Arnaud on June 22, whether it be as a player or volunteer. The conditions tested everyone’s resolve, but love of the sport and the jumper won the day.
Seniors
The seniors kept the Saints goalless for the first three quarters and were eventually victorious by 36 points. Reserves
The reserves game was crucial to the Bulls’ bid for a top two spot and the boys were up to the challenge, winning by 25 points. Awards: Connor Walsh (Donnellon’s & Cruz Clothing), Bodie Colbert (Bourkes Butchers), Brad Smith (Birchip Hardware), Tom Brain (BWFC), Jack Lee (Birchip Motel), Nick Robertson (Wimmera Mallee Accounting).
U16s
Unperturbed by the loss of some key players through injury, the U16s played a great game to win by 43 points. Awards: Tadgh Lowry (Sharp’s Bakery & Noonan Tyres), Patrick Sheahan (Jake & Billy Noonan), Patrick Hogan (BWFC Ladies), Cormacc Wilson (Bowens’ Sports Store), Jake Faccin (TMC Enviro Coach’s Award), Sam O’Donnell (A & M Lee Encouragement).
U13s
The U13s was an entertaining contest where, amazingly, more goals were kicked than in the senior match! The Saints won by 26 points. Awards: Josh Woods (Sharp’s Bakery & Noonan Tyres), Samuel Hogan (Jnr Executive), Connor Boyle (BWFC Ladies), Charlie Frank (Mallee Branded & Jnr Executive), Riley Hogan (Landmark Coach’s Award and J & K Sheahan Encouragement).
Netball
On the netball court, Junior B was the match of the day. With only five teams in the grade every win is crucial, and the Bullettes came through with the goods, beating top team St. Arnaud by five goals. A Grade won. Khiana Brooks (Bowens’ Sports Store), Shae Colbert (Noonan Builders). B Grade lost 13-42. Caitlin Bidstrup (Hogan Transport & Mick Foott Transport), Sophie Gleeson (Mallee Shearing). C Grade won 57-19. Elsie Wallace (Birchip Hotel), Kate Finger (Birchip Automotive). Junior A lost 14-27. Ella Hogan (Brad Ryan Electrical), Hannah Cook (Greg’s Digging). Junior B won 25-20. Petria Frank (A & S Barber), Maggie Wilson (Mallee Branded). U13A won 22-4. Jenna Angel (Sharp’s Bakery), Hannah Kemp (Mallee Landscapes). U13B Awards – Tylah Haslam (TMC Enviro), Hannah Wilson (Jon Haslam Builder).
Hockey
On the hockey field, the women ground out a draw to ensure the Saints didn’t finish the day unbeaten. Women’s drew 1-1. Talei Brooks (O’Connors & Mallee Branded), Steph Coffey (Birchip Hotel). Men’s lost 10-0. Jack Trollope (Birchip Hotel), Jeremy Dean (Smales & Mallee Branded). Under 15s lost 4-1. Samuel Hogan (J & K Dean), Will Hogan (Sharp’s Bakery), Harry Cook (Bowens’ Sports Store). Under 12s lost 1-0. Sassia Coffey (Sharp’s Bakery), Bronte Beacham (Greg’s Digging), Tylah Haslam (J & K Dean). Minkey awards went to Beau Haslam (Birchip IGA) and Reuben van der End (Bourkes’ Butchers).
