Goods & Services Auction
The annual BWFC Goods & Services Auction was a roaring success, with over $57,000 raised. A big “thank you” to organisers Simone and Leon, auctioneer Shan, and to all those who donated and/or purchased items. Thanks also to the Birchip Youth Group who coordinated a movie night for the kids.
Seniors
It was also a successful day for the Bulls on-field, with the footballers winning all four games against Wedderburn. The seniors overcame a quarter-time deficit to ground out a 40-point victory. Many of the players then took on kitchen duties, serving up a delicious meal to their supporters prior to the auction. Reserves
The reserves impressed, defeating a top four opponent for the second consecutive week. Was great to see the big #51 Zach Holmes on the park again contributing to the 15-point win. Under 16s
Friday night meal at the coach’s house was again a good omen for the U16s, who defeated Wedderburn by 106 points. Awards: Darcy Reid (Sharp’s Bakery & Noonan Tyres), Cormacc Wilson (Jake & Billy Noonan), Daniel Slater (BWFC Ladies), Tadgh Lowry (Bowens’ Sports Store), Patrick Hogan (TMC Enviro Coach’s Award), Lachlan Randall (A & M Lee Encouragement).
Under 13s
The U13s played excellently as a team and took home the win by 51 points. With his father’s beloved Indian cricket team bowing out of the World Cup, Jeswin Daniel performed much better on the Aussie Rules field. Netball
On the netball court the Bulls’ junior sides took it up to the Redbacks, winning both U16B and U13A matches. The U13As was the match of the day with every player doing their bit, eager to get every ball, chase every loose pass and shoot accurately. A Grade lost 35-54. Khiana Brooks (Mick Foott Transport & Hogan Transport), Suberia Sailor (Noonan Builders). B Grade lost 29-45. Tori Hogan (Birchip Hotel), Sophie Gleeson (Mallee Shearing). C Grade lost 26-37. Kate Maddern (BWFC Ladies’), Georgia Roberts (Birchip Automotive). Junior A lost 11-40. Hannah Cook (BWFC Ladies’), Abigail Flowers (Birchip Hotel). Junior B won 22-19. Alexandra Randall (Noonan Tyres). U13A won 36-24. Keely Bidstrup (A&S Barber). U13B Awards – Georgia Hogan (Sharp’s Bakery), Allie Knights (Tanya Hogan Massage).
Hockey
On the hockey field, the U12s had the week off but a handful still played for U15s and/or women. U15s were the only victors for the day as the players contented with a wet and muddy surface. Women’s lost 3-0. Katie Bennett (BWFC Ladies’), Bridie Reid (O’Donnell’s Café). Men’s lost 7-1. Brodie Connelly (BWFC Ladies’), James Paley (O’Connors & Mallee Branded). Under 15s won 3-2. Tadgh Lowry (Greg’s Digging & Mallee Branded), Phoebe Paley (J&K Dean), Hannah Kemp (A Smith & H Hogan). Minkey awards went to Torey Atkinson (Birchip IGA), Isla Ferrier (Mallee Shearing Shed) and Beau Haslam (Bourkes’ Butchers).
