It was a pleasure to host players and supporters of the North Central for the first semi final. A big thank you to all volunteers who helped make everything run smoothly.
13 & Under "A" Netball
Birchip-Watchem had two teams in action on the day, staring with 13&UA netball. In beautiful conditions the Bullettes started well, leading 9-5 at quarter time. Their opponents, Wedderburn, hit back in the second quarter to level the scores at 15-15 at halftime. The Redbacks continued to surge in the third quarter, leading by five at the final change. The Bullettes continued to fight hard but Wedderburn continued their ascendancy, taking the win 33-24. Congratulations to Brooke Morris and her charges on a successful season.
Under 12 Hockey
Next up for Birchip-Watchem was the U12 hockey. The Bulls took on Donald who had defeated them twice in the home and away season. Donald had all the play early and it wasn’t long before an unmanned Royal Blue slotted the opening goal of the game. The score remained 1-0 until halftime and the Bulls made a few changes for the second half. It took only two minutes for the changes to pay dividends with Allie Knights levelling the scores for the Bulls. Donald responded immediately, taking the lead 2-1. The Bulls remained determined and before the end of regular time Harry Cook hit a goal to make the final score 2-2. The game went to eight-second penalty shootout and both teams stood up well to the pressure. Bulls’ goalie McKellar Knights was particularly cool under pressure, saving four of Donald’s five penalties. With Austin Dean and Sassia Coffey successfully converting their chances, the Bulls progressed to the preliminary final with a 4-3 victory.
