The Third Division Bulldogs juggernaut continues to roll along after another big win, this time over the Penrith Rams at the weekend.
The round four match got off to a shocking start for the visitors when a communications error left us one man short on the bench and then ruckman, Tim 'Timber' Welsh went down with an achilles problem before the first bounce.
A lack of focus saw the Dogs begin slowly, allowing the Rams to put two majors on the board from six shots at goal. (What Deano looks like without a cap on!)
At quarter-time, the Bulldogs were instructed to tighten up and get in front of their opponents which helped settle them down and bring about a 7-goal-3 to zero second term.
(The only time Dicko will accept being 'above par')
With Casey 'Big Cat' Stephens double-teamed, pocket Shane Powell stepped up to the plate and dominated proceedings in the forward 50, taking a series of impressive one-on-one grabs.
Powelly's parents made the trip to Greygums and he really put on a show for them, ending the match with six majors (seven officially due to an unclaimed goal).
Coach, Shaun 'Gull' Fewings, is considering posting cardboard cutouts of Powelly's mum and dad behind the goals at every game this season.
(Shane Powell's parents were in town!!)
The Bulldogs turned the heat up again after the main break, slamming on 8.2 to the Rams' 2.2 as John Hook in the ruck began popping up across the ground to assist the
ubiquitous Mark Dixon, Ryan Pike, David Backler, Mitchell Brown and Chris Peters.
(Ryan Pike marks strongly, tossing an opponent aside like a tumbler glass off a balcony)
Another setback saw Dan 'David Lee' Roth's fine game interrupted by a blow that cut his chin to the bone.
Then shockwaves shuddered through the small crowd when Hooky dropped to the ground.
Squealing like a stuck pig, he reached for his foot as the umpire beckoned for astretcher.
But alas,Hooky hadn't been shot Franz Ferdinand-style 'it was merely a dose of cramp' enough though, to rule the dark-fearing, knee-conscious ruck out for the
rest of the match.
('For Chrissakes, get me a stretcher 'I've got cramp!!') On the wing, Wes Three Dads was in a battle of his own after being 'bitch-slapped' by an
over-zealous opponent. The blow saw go nuts in the corridor, charging into the middle like a man possessedand hurting the Rams with extra drives forward.
Sprangey excelled front and square, making the most of his opportunities to boot fourâÃÂæ
(Sprangey had all the boys chasing him!)
"while the backline recovered from the blip that was the first quarter to resume its rock-solid form of late, led by Michael 'Pacman' Paxman who didnâÂÂt set a foot wrong and the strong marking, Andy âÂÂplay me up forwardâ Boehm.
(Boehmy trying to sneak into the forward lines)
The Dogs remain on top in Div.3 with three straight wins and a percentage of 433.
The next battle is at home against Moorebank Sports on Sunday at 2pm.
We're now starting to meet the more talented sides, so the tests are before us.
Injuries are starting to mount, but with the fourth grade Best On Ground form last weekend of our own Ben Currie and the return of Toma, the kennel remains full.
