The UNSW-ES 3rd grade racked up their fourth win from as many starts with a solid 46-point victory over the Moorebank Magpies at the Village Green at the weekend.
(Big Cat gets off the deck...no, this has not been photo-shopped!)
The visitors matched it with the top of the ladder Bulldogs for the early stages of the opening term but were no match for the experience and talent of the home side.
(Roth recalls his days in ballet class as he kicks truly!)
Casey âBig Catâ Stephens proved too much of a handful for the Moorebank defenders.
(Big Cat loves nothing more than taking big grabs in front of âred haired kidsâ)
Booting four for the day, he took his tally to 22 goals in four games to hang onto his lead on the 3rd division goal-kicking ladder.
(âLetâs see if I can bowl over that couple on the seatsâ)
The last line of defence impressed again, repelling foray after foray into Moorebankâs forward lines. Michael âPaxyâ Paxman, Brett âSampeyâ Sampey and Andy âBoehmyâ Boehm oozed class, putting pressure on the visitors to match the Dogs on the scoreboard.
(âYou can stay at the Y.M.C.A....Y.M.C.Aaaayâ)
Sammy Laughlin led the way with hard ball gets while Mark âDickoâ Dixon sacrificed his own possession game to tag the Magpies most dominating player, Adam Westwood.
Dan âWhat Stitches?â Roth ran non-stop through the corridor, supported by his skipper, David âRobocopâ Backler...
(Even the Asian post-grad student behind the goals was amazed Backyâs still playing!)
...and Chrissy âSweeperâ Peters on the half-back line was more slippery than a Vaseline covered vacuum cleaner nozzle in Gomerâs top draw.
(âItâs up to you, New York...New Yooork!)
Brad âBogartâ Humphry had a fantastic game, snaring a brilliant back of the pack screamer...
(Humpers found he could leap two feet higher with a Moorebank hand up his clacker!)
But the mark of the day went to the Italian Stallion, Anthony âSpaghetti-headâ Tomasiello, who flew high above a contest to rake in a one-handed ripsnorter!
(âI canât wait to tell Cuzzo and Melbourne about this one! Iâll dine out for weeksâ)
Back to the forward lines and Casey Stephens looked like Helen Keller on downers as he played on from a fine grab, only to miss from point blank range, but he quickly redeemed himself by smothering a free kick and snapping a checkside sensation.
(The Big Catâs efforts on Motherâs Day proved too much for his mumâs ticker!)
Shane âBadenâ Powell fell hook, line and sinker for the cardboard cutouts of his parents we placed behind the goals and was involved in everything, a bit like the Big Cat at an âall you can eat Swingers night!â
(âWhy didnât Mum and Dad wave back?â)
Surprisingly this week, the stretcher remained sidelined as John âCaptainâ Hook chimed in with some solid gameplay, although he was heard muttering âplease God, no kneesâ in the middle.
(Hooky heads out for another big night at Stonewall)
An undermanned Moorebank refused to give in and fought out a game that seemed a lot closer than the scoreboard suggested.
(Another strong mark in front of the seated cardboard cutouts of Don and Joan Powell and little cousin, Jethro)
The Dogs were grateful for the hit-out with Nor-West only two weeks away.
(âNow Iâve taken the mark, Iâll try to land on this fat bloke in front to cushion my fall.â)
The victory keeps the Bulldogs on top of the Division ladder and keener than Sampers on a rainy date at the Donny.
(It took the paramedics three hours to remove the Moorebank playerâs boot)
Parramatta Holroyd have every reason to be trembling ahead of next weekâs game but at least now Hooky wonât be the only one sleeping with the lights on!

Congrats to the fours on a great win and particularly the threes representatives, Jezza O, Ben âDonât call me Jim Cassidyâ Pumpa, Gomer Pyle and Niall âCough Medicineâ OâAlphabet.
(Toma turns it on, but the post grad student is still getting over the Backy issue!)
