The Third Division UNSW-ES Bulldogs continued their
undefeated roll with an 81 point thrashing of the second placed U.T.S. Bats at Trumper Park at the weekend.
The Bulldogs were uncertain as to how they would shape up
against the home side in their first ever clash in the new Division Three but
were well primed and focussed for any occasion.
(With Powelly and
Wisey out, Stephens felt less pressure)
The visitors’ eyebrows were raised when by quarter time they
were leading four goals to zero, thanks to some top efforts from Dixon, Swanson and
Camilleri.
The Bats gambled by putting a loose man or two in our
forward lines, leaving Andy “The Fist” Boehm unmanned in defence.
(Boehm was upset the
opposition coach didn’t rate him worthy of an opponent and made him pay!)
With Michael “Paxy” Paxman dominating their full-forward and
Dean “Hardman” Hughey keeping the Centre half in check, Boehm ran amok negating
every forward approach by U.T.S.
At the half, the Bulldogs led 10 goals to a few points.
By this stage, they were firing on all cylinders, Laughlin,
Crocket, Roth, Pike and Beams were providing drive from the middle, making the
most of some great tap work by Timber Welsh.
(Going up…women’s
clothing, haberdashery…Timber!)
In the backline, Chrissy “C-P” Peters and Josh “Need a
nickname” Edwards were in complete control in their role as clearance experts.
(Text book shot
straight the defender’s handbook)
Humpers and Tomasiello roamed the forward lines and the Bats
found they simply could not control all our experienced players.
(Humpers looked like a
“tall” forward on Trumper)
By the seventh minute mark of the final term, the Bulldogs
were dominant, leading 16 goals to one.
The home side provided a bit of spark when they booted their
second from a 50 metre penalty then three more on the run, two of them due to a
delayed switch at Centre half back.
By the close of play, the Dogs were stunned by the ease of
their win…the Bats appeared shell-shocked.
(Micky Martin imagined
the football was Three Dads’s head!)
Unable to match the speed of the play, U.T.S. could not
handle the tackling pressure applied by the visitors and resorted to long bombs
that played into the hands of our backs.
A fantastic team win that saw us carry no passengers and our
ninth win out of nine games in the new division…25 wins from our last 29.
