Bulldogs bounce back with solid win over Parramatta
The UNSW-ES Third Division
Bulldogs returned to the winner’s circle at the weekend with a resounding 127
point win over Parramatta
at the Village Green.
The Dogs got off to a flyer,
booting six goals to nil in the opening term with Warren “Swanny” Swanson, Casey “Big Cat”
Stephens and Dave “Double D” Dowling leading from the front.
Ryan “Don’t Call Me Ben”
Pike and Dan “David Lee” Roth did well from the middle but it was Chrissy
Peters’s day as he dominated from the wing.
Taking a rest from his
regular half-back duties, Peters racked up scores of possessions, showing both
defensive and offensive nous through the corridor for four consistent quarters.
The Dogs struggled in the
second term in a frame of mind that dangerously resembled the last Mac Uni game
when it all seemed “too easy” after the opening stanza.
Despite new team rules, we
again congested the forward lines, providing unnecessary confidence to the
bottom placed side, which responded with pressure all day, despite the
overwhelming score line.
By the third term, we were
back on track.
Brad “Bogarts” Humphry and
Shane “Rowdy” Powell got leather poisoning but were among a handful of players
that couldn’t convert.
The Bulldogs racked up 49
scoring shots to two for the day, but 31 of them were behinds.
Twos player, Eti Okumbor,
provided extra drive along the wing for the home side while Michael “Mish”
McAlister’s courage and ferocity at the ball was inspirational.
The defence was back to its
best with Parramatta
scoring only two goals for the day, one coming from a lucky bounce and the
other scored by a midfielder from 45 out.
Final scores:
UNSW-ES 18.31.139
Parramatta 2. 0. 12
Goals:
Okunbor 3, Dowling 3, Stephens 3, Swanson 2, Pike 2, Roth, Powell, Peters,
Mahenthirarojah, Pumpa.
Best:
Peters, Pike, Hughey, Pumpa, Roth, Dowling
