Scorers

It is the responsibility of the first named (home) team to collect the scoresheet from the office at least 10 minutes before the match commences, and score for the match. The away team must provide a responsible adult to stand or sit near the scorer and flip the numbers on the scorepad.

It is vital that the scoresheet is filled out correctly showing all players first and last names and positions played each quarter. If a player does not play for part of the game, put a line through their position space for the quarters affected. If a player does not play for the entire game, do not cross their name off the scoresheet. Just put a line through positions played for the entire match.

If a fill-in player is used, list their first and last name, age group and section of the team they are registered in, e.g. "Sally Smith 13/4". Fill-in positions played in the same way as other players. Make sure you are aware of the rules regarding fill-in players and if in any doubt check with a committee member prior to the player taking the court.

At the start of the quarter and with each goal scored record the team taking the centre pass. Centre passes should alternate with each goal. If the umpires get out of sequence, do not correct them.

When a goal is scored, place a 1 next to the goal scorer, either GS or GA, and put a line through the next number on the tally score. At the end of each quarter, tally the GS and GA scores and write the combined tally for the quarter in the adjacent box.

At the end of the game, tally the quarter totals and check that it matches your running tally. You must also sign the scoresheet.

Rules For Fill-in Players

  • All fill-in players must be registered with Lilydale Netball Club.
  • A player can only participate in a maximum of 2 games per day.
  • A player can only fill-in for a team that is in a higher section or age group than the one she is registered in.
  • There is no limit on the number of games in a season a player may fill-in for a team in a higher age group; however, a player may only fill-in for a team in a higher section of the same age group twice. If a player participates in a third game then the player will be deemed to be a member of that team for the remainder of the season. Note that this does not mean a player playing section 5 can play two games in section 3 and two games in section 1 - they can only play "up" a total of two times in either team.
  • Players from one team are not permitted to fill-in for a team in the same section.
  • If a player fills in for a team that player is not permitted to fill-in for any other team in that section on that day.

The rules for fill-ins can be confusing and the penalties to the club for playing an illegal player severe so always check that a player is eligible to fill-in before they take the court.

Coaches are required to keep a record of all fill-ins used for the season so always notify the player's coach prior to using a fill-in and ensure the player is aware of the rules.

If you have any doubts at all about using a fill-in check with a committee member, the player's regular coach and the player. If you have any doubt, err on the side of caution.
