Conditions of Play

Conditions of Play - Sovereign Knights Basketball Club

Organisations must have protection in place for efficient club management and to protect all people involved. For Sovereign Knights Basketball Club, that means players and coaches, committee and associated persons.

The best way to ensure this safeguard is by having written policies that specify what is and isn’t acceptable from safety and financial aspects through to communication and behaviour.

We ask that you being either the parent or guardian of under-aged children or a self funded player take this home and read it and keep it. It is important that all families know the policies and have an explanation of them so as to understand the reasoning behind them. The club has senior and junior teams, so there are specifics to both as this is a comprehensive club document.

SAFETY-DUTY OF CARE
Our “duty of care” is to ensure the safety of people associated with the club only in the GYMNASIUM at Damascus on the night designated to us by the BBA and Damascus College- Monday 4:30 to 6pm, Wednesday 6 to 8pm and Thursday 5pm-8pm. There shouldn’t be any Sovereign players there at any other time unless previously arranged with the committee and the specific staff at Damascus. Sovereign Knights Basketball Club and Damascus College are not responsible for any injury or damage that occurs in any other part of the school and environs. i.e. the stairs, doorways into other parts of the school, car park and grassed areas.

As parents/guardians, you expect that when the children come to training, we will do our utmost to keep them from harm while they are there. Our responsibility begins at their allocated training time and stops when the training session they attend fininshes. Please come in and pick up your child.

Picking up children late from training
Although they are not babysitters and are busy attending to club matters, committee members are at training and understand that at times, you may need to pick your child/children up late. Children must remain in the foyer or gym area and behave themselves.

TRAINING
Training is a critical part of your basketball. This is where you improve your own and your team building skills. For teams where there are sufficient numbers, if you don’t attend training, you may miss the game on Saturday. (No train-No play)

We want you to have fun and enjoy your basketball, but training is for focusing on skill work and not for mucking around with your friends. The coach may limit your game time if you don’t put the same effort into training as your team members do. There is to be no sitting on the side if you don’t feel like doing something…you are there to train!

Each training sessions will begin on time. Anyone who doesn’t arrive in time will still have to warm-up during their training time and may result in less game time on Saturday.  If players arrive any earlier for training they are not to interfere with the coaching or training of other teams. Please wait at the sidelines for your own training.

As we are promoting a healthy lifestyle, we ask that you provide water during training and games. Please don’t bring soft drinks, lollies etc into training sessions as these are unacceptable both to the Club and the school.

COACHES
All coaches volunteer their time, are very dedicated to their team and are there to guide and instruct the players. The expectation is that players will listen to the coach and do as they ask. The committee will not accept any disrespect, bad behaviour (to the coach or other team members) or rudeness. Any continual behaviour problems by players during training or on game day will be taken very seriously by the committee and parents will be called in for discussion regarding the situation if deemed necessary.

All coaching positions will be vacated at the end of each season. If you wish to continue coaching you will be required to contact the President or Coaching Co-Ordinator and let them know. If a situation arises where there is more than one applicant for a coaching role, the Committee will elect the coach they deem to be most appropriate.

It is expected that parents and adults also behave themselves in an appropriate manner.

TEAM MANAGERS/TEAM CONTACT
Team Managers (junior teams) are appointed at the beginning of each season. They assist the coach by completing game score sheets prior to the start time, collect any monies or reply slips that are due to be returned. Every family gets a go!!
Team Contacts (senior teams) take on this responsibility in a modified form. They are the link between the committee and the team. They ensure that all financial and administration issues are maintained.

SCORING
Every club is required to have a scorer at each game. In turn, the club expects that all families will take turns in scoring. You will only have to do it a few times each season when it is rostered evenly between all families. The best way to learn is “hands on”. To start with watch someone else for a while and then get on the bench with them. “I don’t know how to do it” isn’t an excuse. Every family is required to do it. Please ask someone in your team to help you learn.
It is your responsibility to keep up with the scoring roster. Team managers usually organise this early in the season. If you can’t do your day, please arrange a swap with another family. In the case of sudden inability to attend on your rostered day, please let your Team Manager know. Senior teams will be responsible for supplying a scorer for each game.

GAME ATTENDANCE
Walk-Over’s or Forfeits are not okay and the club does everything to ensure they don’t occur as the financial liability to the club is up to $100. If you are unable to attend a game, it is vital that you inform your coach at training, or in the case of sudden illness, your Team Manager ASAP.
It is unacceptable to miss game day without prior warning. Senior teams agree as part of club registration that they are fully responsible for the cost of their walkover fees.

FEES
Club policy states that a player must have paid all monies to be eligible to play.

Your fees are necessary to cover club costs (i.e. court hire, etc) and we continue to keep them to a minimum to make it affordable for all. If you have problems with fee payments please contact the Treasurer to arrange a payment system.

Other merchandise is purely optional - warm up tops, bags, polo shirts etc are available to order but must be paid for upon ordering.

Fees are payable via rego.skbc.org.au.

You can also pay via direct deposit to our bank account but please email treasurer@skbc.org.au if you elect to do this:

Name:  Sovereign Basketball Club
BSB 633 000
Acct: 153 197 454
Please ensure you write the family name as a reference.

REGISTRATION
Registration begins before the end of the season because of BBA requirements with team listings. Players are expected to attend on this night to pay fees, update personal details etc. Senior teams should send a representative with their payment at this time also. Registration night will be advertised however it usually begins two weeks before the end of the season. It continues into the first two weeks of the season. Players not financial by this stage are ineligible to play.

We hope this explains some of the important aspects of our club and its operation. If you have any queries, suggestions and/or ideas please don’t hesitate to put them forward. Committee meetings are open to all interested parties and we would welcome your input.
Please remember that we are also volunteers and as such we are not professionals in the area of basketball administration. We are learning as we go.
