RIPPERTEAM BASKETBALL CLUB INFORMATION

We aim to providea fun, energetic and positive environment for children to learn and enjoy the sport of Basketball. We are an inclusive Club where all children are accepted and encouraged to participate regardless of experience or ability.

Our Club has a strong focus on good sportsmanship, how to work as a team and learning the unique skills required to play basketball.

The Club is run by parents/members who volunteer their time and experience for the benefit of all who are involved.

Junior Games

Junior games are held on Thursday and Friday nights:

Thursday:            Under 14, 16 and 18

Friday:                  Under 10 and 12.

Players should arrive at least 10 minutes prior to game in preparation to take the court.

Fixtures and results are posted on the Rockhampton Basketball website - Parents/Players are advised to check this website for game times.

Training

Ripperteam training is held each Wednesday at Rockhampton Basketball for most of our teams. Depending on the coach and court availability some teams will train outside of these times.

Wednesday:         4.30pm – 5.15pm  - Under 10 Boys and Girls

                           5.15 – 6.30pm – Under 12 and 14 Boys and Girls

                           5.30 – 7.00pm – Under 16, and 18 Boys and Girls

Training sessions for under 10’s is based on Learn to Play skills and activities that teach the fundamentals of basketball and prepares the players  for competitive play.

Uniforms

Playing singlets are provided by the club for players to wear each game.  Singlets are to be handed back at the end of each game.

Ripperteam playing shorts can be purchased from the club.  Cost is $37.50.  Alternatively players can wear plain black sports shorts – NO pockets or loops where fingers can get caught.

Fundraising

As with any Not for Profit club, we rely heavily on fundraising to keep our club running.  Fortunately we have a great partnership with other sporting clubs to assist in their main fundraising venture – BINGO.  This fundraiser enables us to keep costs down for our members by subsidising uniform, court hire(for training)and other miscellaneous expenses.

Players/parents also benefit directly from this fundraiser.  Any parent that helps on Bingo nights receives a $20 credit with Ripperteam Basketball that can be paid toward any Rockhampton Basketball expense, ie Fees, QBL tickets, etc..

BINGO is held on Friday nights at Scotia Place and helpers are required from 6pm to 9.30/10pm.  If you would like to help out and join our Bingo roster, please contact Fiona Halliday via email: fhall8@eq.ed.au

Team Management

Our club relies on parent /player help to coach and manage teams.

Coaches - Our coaches are parents of current players, parents of past players who still enjoy coaching basketball and older junior players who are interested in coaching.  Without these remarkable people lending their valuable time and skills, our club could not run.

Although coaching is the main part of our team management, there are other important roles as well.

Team Manager – it is desirable for each team to have a team manager.

This person is the team contact should there be any issues related just to your team.  Ie: forfeits – ring around to let the team know, players to contact team manager if they can’t make the game.  Another responsibility is to organise the team singlets - make sure they are ready for each game and returned at the end of the game.

Scorebench each team is required to provide a person to score the game.  Although daunting at first, once you learn it is quite simple – just need a little concentration.

Ripperteam club expects all parents to take their turn in scorebench duties and will provide ‘lessons’ and support during the season for all parents/helpers so everyone can share this job.

Committee

Our Committee is run by volunteer parents and meet every 2 months, usually on Wednesday’s at the same time as training.  We welcome and encourage all parents/members to become involved.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask your team coach or one of the Ripperteam Committee Members.
