Match Reports 3rd/4th May
The Cooma Cats AFL side continued their winning streak on Sunday with the clubs first ever appearance on Manuka oval beating the Eastlake Demons. Cooma 23.18 (156) to Eastlake 5.6 (36). The Cats fielded a strong and fast side on the open expanses of Manuka oval and were soon in control in the first quarter kicking 5 goals to 2 with Tony Fleming and Luke Condon showing the way. The 2nd quarter the cats piled on the pressure and only allowed Eastlake a solitary goal to Cooma’s 5 and the game was slipping away quickly for the Demons. The Cats defensive lines including first gamers of the year Kyle King and Chris Metten were relentless and repelled every attack. Up forward the dangerous Kyle Hubert found his mojo in front of goal and started to kick goal after goal as he passed defenders with ease whilst ruckman Anthony Brennan had his best game this year for the club in the middle. In the 2nd half it was the Cats who stamped their mark with an 8 goal 3rd quarter before coach Asanovski eased the team through the final quarter with changes to the line up to look after his rotations and players for the weeks ahead. The Subway player of the match was Chris Metten. The Cats would like to thanks their sponsors the Australian Hotel Cooma, Subway Cooma, and Chisolm Hotel for their continued support and a particular thanks to the friends, families and team staff who assisted on what was a great day for the club.
The Snowy Supercats under 14 side kicked off their 2014 AFL season with a difficult away game against Marist and although the Supercats were defeated by 10 goals by an outnumbered Marist outfit their efforts were courageous and encouraging and coach Stu Wood said “I’m so proud of the team today and their endeavours and can’t wait to see the improvement in the coming weeks at training and in the games”. The Subway junior player of the week award went to first gamer Dylan Kable who led the way and got his first kick in AFL footy whilst it was Jessica Sergo who kicked the great goal for the Supercats. The Supercats would like to thanks their sponsors Coles Cooma and NAB Cooma.
The Cats travel to Amaroo next Sunday to take on Gungahlin, whilst the Supercats travel to Queanbeyan.
