Junior Clubman of the Year 2011
AFLBJ – Club Volunteer of the Year 2014

I Grew up in Melbourne and played early football with Beaumaris then played in SA, Queensland and NT, as work took me to these places. I loved playing the game and have kept involved, coming to Sherwood in 2006 and have been a junior coach at the club for four years.
I worked in banking and finance until I was 25, and then moved to a national paintingcontracting business as GM in Victoria. Relocated to Brisbane in 2001 as State Manager forHiggins Coatings, overseeing the growth of the business to now include four offices and 250staff.
Lives in Sherwood and is married to Rhonda with two teenage children (Alexandra &Lachlan) who both participate in sport, with Lachie currently playing for Sherwood. Interests include AFL, golf, surfing, reading a good book, watching sport at any level, being involved at local AFL level and rowing. Passions include grass roots footy in providing a program that encourages people of all genders and ages to participate.
At Sherwood, it is a goal of mine, and many others, to ensure that we continue to play at the best level in SE Queensland, and we are seen as a like minded community club that attracts people to play at the club because we offer the best programs, facilities, grounds and coaching in the western suburbs.
I believe Sherwood should not be just known as a football club, but should be promoted as a ‘Community Minded Sporting Club’, and as such, have been actively involved in achieving grants for the development of facilities at the club.

BRUCE McNICOL
Board Member 1999-2013
President 2010-2014
Clubman of the Year 2013
|
I was born at Bowral NSW in 1958, moved to Sydney in 1971 and onto England in 1975 with my parents. I attended boarding school in the UK for my final two years of secondary school. I enjoyed some success in the UK whilst rowing and managed to be a finalist two years running at Henley. I spent twelve months in Port Hedland as a trades assistant, before returning to the U.K. to study business. In 1982 I moved to Melbourne to work with Ingersoll-Rand, and moved up to Brisbane in 1994. In 1996 I started with my current employer, Komatsu Australia Pty ltd. I Married Delia and have two great boys, Tom and Sam, both who have been involved with the club.
I have enjoyed volunteering where my sons’ sport was involved and have been on the Football club board since 1999, and was made a life member in 2009. Found the experience of flying in a glider a few years ago amazing. I have passion for red wine, champagne, music, golf, photography, gardening, travelling, woodwork and fishing. One of my great pleasures is going to the beach most weekends with Delia, it provides a welcome release from the working week. The South Island of New Zealand stands out as a wonderful place for photography and sightseeing.
My contribution at the club has been to continue to provide the right environment to turn the individual into a valued member of society. The Club works on the principles of fair play, respect for others and the desire to achieve. It is a great pleasure to see the players evolve as footballers, but also to develop into fine young community minded men.

Andrew Thomson
Board Member 2015
|
Andrew was born in Bendigo and grew up in country Victoria with a passion for Australian Rules, Cricket & Hockey and is an avid follower of Collingwood Football Club.
At the age of 14, the family relocated to QLD where Andrew attended Ipswich Grammar School and was a member of the 1st XI Cricket, 1st XV Rugby and 1st XVIII Australian Rules sides.
After completing studies at IGS, Andrew attended the University of Queensland and Kings College where he continued to play Cricket & Rugby at an elite level, but regrettably lost touch with his preferred sport of Australian Rules.
Graduating from UQ with Bachelor of Business (Management) & Bachelor of Arts, Andrew has held senior roles in property & financial services at a variety of organisations in Brisbane and is the current General Manager - Marketing, Strategy & Distribution for a boutique Property Finance & Development Company.
Despite going 10 years with no involvement in Australian Rules Football, Andrew maintained his passion for the sport via his support for Collingwood and working in Marketing for a major sponsor of the Brisbane Lions for a number of years. Upon moving to the Chelmer area to start a family, Andrew found himself continually drawn down to the Western Magpies ground to watch the club play in his beloved black & white and was eventually drawn out of sporting retirement to play 3rds for Sherwood Magpies in 2008 before being involved in the formation of affiliate club Woodsmen AFC where he is the current President and a dual premiership player.
Andrew is married to primary school teacher Lauren, and has 4 children - Lauren 8, Harry 6, Georgia 3 & Sam 1. He looks forward to working with the newly formed Western Magpies board and assisting in marketing the club and securing long term sponsors for a sustainable & successful presence at the highest level of Queensland Football and a positive and inclusive environment for young footballers in the local area, including his own children in the future. |
