Son of a gun ready to flower

While Darren ‘Daisy’ Williams was a great servant for Essendon, he has made a pretty good contribution to the Frankston Football Club too.

It was the two-time Bombers premiership player’s decision to take a sea change on the Mornington Peninsula that delivered his talented son Jordy to the Dolphins.

“I just wanted to have a change of scenery, live down with dad in Blairgowrie and this was the nearest VFL club,” the younger Williams said.

While he is well aware of his father’s achievements, the teenager is far too young to have seen ‘Daisy’ at his best.

“He’s pretty modest about it, he doesn’t talk about it a lot,” the Eastern Ranges graduate said.

“I’ve only seen tapes of the big games, the finals and grand finals.”

A lean 180cm, Jordy has impressed everyone at the Dolphins with his speed, balance and athleticism, in stark contrast to his old man.

“I'm a bit more of an outside running midfielder, whereas he was in-and-under, a hard-at-it little nugget!”

For a young man obviously keen to reach the highest point in Australian Rules football, Williams is remarkably grounded about what lies ahead.

“Hopefully just sneak a few games in the ones and see how I go, but if not I’ll just give it a good crack in the twos and I'm sure my opportunity will come,” he said.

“It’s a great vibe because there’s a lot of other 18 and 19 year olds here and the senior blokes are helping us out a lot, giving us a lot of advice.”
