About UDBC

History of the United Districts Basketball Club Incorporated

United Districts Basketball Club officially began on 4th October 1977. The Club's first side was a women's side, which trained on an outside court alongside Broadview Oval. It played in a Sunday Evening competition at St Bernard's Recreation Centre at Campbelltown with very limited success.

The second season saw the introduction of the first men's side. The women's side improved gradually and the men's side, despite being winless for some 40 plus games, were doing likewise. This improvement saw the influx of many players and so the number of sides increased. Training had to be moved to an indoor court at Enfield High School on Tuesday nights and the Club fielded sides on every night except Tuesdays (training) and Saturdays.

People became involved in many and varied ways with our number one supporter, the father of a player who sat out for the entire first men's season in order to obtain a clearance to play for us, attending every game.

By the early to mid eighties, the Club's move from its 'safety zone' of Sundays for women and Fridays for men, where a side had a winning streak of over 100 games, provided the Club with a great challenge as did the move of a men's side into the Division two District Competition.

In the space of 10 years and after a successful stint in the District ranks, the Club moved back to its purely social grade format with team numbers in double figures.

By the late '80s and early 90's the Club, now a competitive force in social competition, branched out from it's 'base' at St Bernard's to enter competitions at Gawler Stadium and Hillcrest Stadium. New venues, new competition and a new challenge. It took little time for the Club to establish itself in its new environment and whereas in the past it had been usual Grand Final appearances, it became usual Grand Final victories.

The late '90s saw the Club continue in the manner with again the re-entry into the District competition and in the year 2000 the Club has 10 sides that play in 8 venues.

The club established itself as a power in the Men's senior district competition from 2005 to 2010 where it played in finals every season and grand finals in the 2006, 2009, and 2010 season. Winning the 2006 premiership being the club's highest ever achievment to date. Regular season standings see United consistently winning 20+ games in a 25 game season and seeding themselves high amongst the leaders in playoff rankings.

The club then recorded its highest ever ranking in the district competition with a team in the mens ABA reserves, which finished 6th that season.

Over the past 7 years the mens team has been led by a strong mix of players from various clubs and sporting backgrounds with the mainstay of 6 players having been together for 8 seasons now.
