Diamond Burra News 14 - November 2012

Hi Diamond Burra !

Sorry for the delay in between emails but been just a tad busy !

Since we last communicated, we've had a Grand Final (still in therapy over that one), a SENSATIONAL Presentation Night and an AGM which saw a new Club Secretary appointed ........ (what was I thinking ??? !!!)

Firstly, a huge thank you to all Diamond Burra's during season 2012. Your support for our players on game day was fantastic, during the finals was exceptional and on Grand Final Day....just amazing ! It certainly didn't go unnoticed, with the support from the Diamond Burra's being mentioned in a couple of speeches on the day. Well done to all, we did our job well, and we hope you enjoyed being a Diamond Burra in our very first season !

GRAND FINAL

Sadly, this day didn't end how we'd hoped. However, we as a club can be very proud of our players and supporters on the day. Our boys gave it their all, particularly in the last quarter when all seemed lost. In true Burra spirit, and they way they'd played all year, they didn't give up, found another gear and closed the margin to just a couple of points. Unfortunately Riddell kept up the fight, time was against us and the Burra went down by a mere 7 points. Our boys were devastated and will remember that feeling for a long time to come, but will take a lot from the experience and should be proud of the way they conducted themselves during the day and their dignity in defeat. But while the result hurt so much, it was a fantastic and exciting day to be a part of and we intend to be there to do it all over again next year.....but this time the silverware will be coming home with us !

PRESENTATION NIGHT

From all reports, our Presentation Night this year was the biggest and best ever ! A fantastic night at a great venue, great food and drink, and a wonderful celebration of all those who's contributions make ours the great club that it is. The Burra certainly knows how to put it on, and the icing on the cake that makes ours stand apart from the others is the sensational slide show put together by our Diamond Burra Carol Gleeson ! I don't think anyone realises just how many hours Carol puts in during the season in her "paparazzi" role taking hundreds of photo's of our players at each game, sorting and loading them onto the website, then putting together an individual slide show of EVERY award winner which is played as they step up to accept their award on the night. This years awards slide show consisted of over 1,000 photo's....a MASSIVE task, but completed perfectly. Well done and thank you Carol !

DIAMOND BURRA'S 2013

Our Diamond Burra 'team list' is finalised and set to go for season 2013 ! We have the same numbers, being 35 members plus our Honorary member May Walsh, and our wonderful Diamond Burra Patron, Hugh "Hefner" Ford has pledged his commitment again to the Diamond Burra and the club. We have pleasure in introducing two new Diamond Burra's who have been on our waiting list during the year, patiently awaiting a vacancy ! Welcome to Keryn Grant and Melissa Jonkers as Diamond Burra's for season 2013. We are excited to have you on board, and hope you enjoy your year proudly wearing the badge !

We also say thank you to our two special Diamond Burra's Brigitte Marsh and Kate Laurie who are not renewing their membership for 2013. Your support has been greatly appreciated, and we hope to see you wearing the Diamond Burra badge again in time to come.

As we did last year, we will be holding a Diamond Burra night probably sometime in early March next year where you will finalise your club membership, receive your badge, choose your sponsored player and get to know each other. We will let you know as soon as the date is confirmed. This will also be the final day for payment of your Diamond Burra membership.

Thank you to those who have already paid. Between now and then, if you'd like to pay your $100.00 Diamond Burra membership for 2013 you can do so by:

  • Cash
  • Cheque payable to "Diggers Rest Football Club"
  • **Direct Credit to the club bank account -
Bendigo Bank BSB: 633 000
A/C No: 141807339
**please include "DB (your name)" as a reference in the transaction so Lance knows what it's for, and send me an email advising that you've made the payment so we can reconcile.

SEASON 2013

While our players have had a well earned rest, the Diggers Rest Football Netball Club never closes ! As soon as the playing season finished, the Committee and others behind the scenes commenced the work and planning associated with preparing for the season ahead. It's amazing just how much goes into running a football/netball club...it really is like running a business. And mostly by volunteers who give many hours of their time to our club each week while balancing their home, work and personal commitments. If you are able to assist in any way, whether it be on game day or something behind the scenes, no matter how big or small the club would truly appreciate your contribution.

And the footy boots weren't in mothballs for long ! It may be cricket season, but our boys will be back into it again next Monday 19th November when pre-season training commences. Time to undo the damage caused by Mad Monday, Footy Trip and all those footy-free weekends....some may have a LOT of work to do !!

Well, that's it for now. We will endeavour to keep you posted with Diamond Burra news when it comes to hand (and when I can squeeze in the time !), but you can also catch other news at our website www.drfc.com.au or the Diggers Rest Fnc Facebook page.

As usual, please feel free to contact myself or Jenny Stead if you need to, or communications directly to the club can be made via the new email address:

diggersrestfnc@hotmail.com

Enjoy your summer break !

GO BURRA'S !!
