How does team selection work at DCBC?

After many years and receiving feedback from players and parents the following process is followed:

Players are evaluated during the season by coaches and age group co-ordinaters. Feedback is provided to selection committee by way of written feedback. 

Players attend a player evaluation session and are graded by independent assessors (parents cannot grade any group in which their child plays). Grading scores are collated and used by selection committee.

Players who register on time are placed into a team based on their evaluations.  

Those who register late cannot be guaranteed a place in the team with whom they may nominate. 

Selection committee convenes and looks at all information on hand from registration, coaches and player evaluations to determine the best team.

Teams are selected and players/coaches informed.

 

Who gets graded?

Under 10 and above are graded and evaluated. U8 are not officially graded and general feedback is used to form the teams.

 

 

Can I get a copy of the evaluation forms for my child?

Short answer is no. We do not share this information and use it as a guide, it is not intended for players or parents. 

 

Who decides what grade the team plays in?

DVBA decide on the grading for all teams based on grading games at the start of each season. DCBC do not have any recourse in this. It is expected that that DCBC put forward their best team as: team 1, 2 etc. (Note - to maintain a balance sometimes we look to spread the talent across a age group to have the best chance of competing. An example of this would be when an age group is low on numbers. i.e 2 teams in one age group.)

This process applies to all ages except U8’s who are automatically graded by the DVBA every 5 games.

 

Who forms the selection commitee? 

The commitee is chaired by memebrs of the committee usually the President, Vice President and Secretary. Input is also obtained from the age group co-ordinators and coaches.
