A STAR ON THE RISE

A STAR ON THE RISE

As a seven year old, current Sydney FC recruit Nicholas Sorras started off his soccer career as an outfielder for Concord Junior Soccer Club. At age 14 he moved into the goalkeeper role and found his calling.

Nicholas was then taken on board by Sydney Olympic and played goalie in the Premier League U16 team before being headhunted by the Central Coast Mariners to play full time for their U17 team.

Currently, Nicholas is over in Chile where he played in the Junior World Cup Soccer for the Joey’s U17 team in the quarter finals against Nigeria. He will be returning to Sydney FC.

All of us at Concord Junior Soccer Club would like to wish Nicholas the very best of luck in his professional soccer career.  We are very proud of him and know we will see him play for many years to come.

KANGA CUP 2105

What an incredible display from all 3 Concord teams that went to participate in the 2015 Kanga Cup. With a record number of players and teams from all around the world participating.

Our Under 11's that played in the Shield went from strength to strength with each game they played. Overpowering other teams with outstanding performances from Prasanna Pranitpal, Zuriel Heapy, along with everyone playing their part in emphatic wins. The Under 11’s went through the competition undefeated and won their grand final with an amazing 10 -1 score, to make them back to back champions in the Kanga Cup 2015 Shield group. The experience showed in this team and you could see these boys were ready for this tournament from day one. Consistency is a very hard thing to get out of a team, but this team got it right when it counted, with consistent performances from all players on the field. Starting from our GK Rian Surti, Tolga Yuvuz, Harris Katzigiannis, Stephan Fedele, Adriano Garigliano, Rex Lo presti , Antoni Georgopoulos, Stephen Fondoulis, Halil Mentes and Daniel, Congrats boys once again on a great win and a great tournament.

Now, our future as a club for grass roots soccer is in great shape with one of our U/9 teams who participated in the Kanga Cup Plate division. They were extraordinary in their performances, only losing one game out of seven and unlucky not to make it through to the grand final. Can I honestly say, as a Committee member that I was very proud of the way this group of young boys went about their business. They played each game hard, fair and with great team spirit. A real pleasure to have this team representing Concord Junior Soccer Club. Be proud boys, be very proud. There were some big performances coming from that team with Thomas Lee, who was absolutely outstanding and was growing with every game being played. Backed up with a very strong backline that was led by Callum Macall, Domenic la Greca, Teddy Newton, Joshua Russo, Ricky Castellano, Henry Hewson ,Damion Arrow and Joseph Polifroni. Also a big thank you to the coaches - Paul Lombardo and Paul whitehead who did a fantastic job with the boys, even though they had theirt boys playing in a different U9/s team. Thanks guys.

Well! You want to know what excitement is? Let’s talk about the U/9s team.

This U/9s team that participated in the cup division had it all. They called it THE BEST OF THE BEST Competion. This was something to be talked about, with a heavy schedule in front of them playing 2 games a day in 0C temperatures. For the first 3 days in a group stage of 8 teams competing, only 1st and 2nd would go through to the grand final. The boys started their 1st game with a very disappointing loss, which we were leading 3-1. With 5 minutes left on the clock, with a score of 4-3, that’s when we knew as a team we were in for a very hard week of soccer. This included playing some of the best teams in the state. It wasn't going to be easy, but boy did the boys become the surprise packet. These boys showed some courage and true grit in performing the way they did. The boys went on to win the next 2 games convincingly, to finish the last 3 games with some nail biting wins which surprisingly got us a place in the grand final against a team from Melbourne (Carlea FC Army), who undoubtedly played a better game than us. On grand final day, in very wet conditions, it was a a well-deserved win by our opponents. Final score 3-1. An absolutely brave and proud performance by the boys, who in the end left everything on the field and bonded amongst themselves. I don’t think very few will forget this experience. With brilliant performances by Frankie Whitehead and Julian Fedele, these 2 players lead the team throughout the tournament with leadership qualities, along with 6 goals being scored upfront by Marco Garigliano and Jaoquin Gonzales scoring 2. Also, a special mention to our defence, which was led by our big centre back Jahn Knoph, Mathew May Kimon Draper, Alessandro Lombardo and Peter Arygou.

A final word from Pep Fedele and Kevin Stacey. A big thank you and well done to all families ,teams and players who represented our club in a great manner. The week was a special and fun week, and I'm sure some great memories will last for a long time to come. A special mention to all the parents - it could not be possible without you and hopefully, fingers crossed, with plenty of hard work in front of us next year we can come home with more silverware.

This one is for you boys:

Sing it loud where ever you are!!

We are black

We are white

We are mighty dynamite

Who we meet

We defeat

Go Concord !!

Thank you and well done to all.

NO SMOKING POLICY

Smoking is banned in spectator areas at public sports grounds and other recreational areas in NSW. However, smoking will only be banned when an organised sporting event is being held.Major sporting facilities are included under the definition of public sporting ground and will be required to comply with the new law. Other outdoor sporting facilities, such as local Council playing fields, are also covered by the new law.

Will smoking be banned only in spectator areas which are covered?

No. The smoking ban applies to all spectator areas at sports grounds and other recreational areas when they are being used for an organised sporting event. The law applies to both covered and uncovered spectator areas and whether seating is provided or not.

Will the ban only cover the time that the players are competing?

No. The smoking ban applies during the entire duration of the organised sporting event. This will include not just when the players are competing but pre match and half time games and entertainment that form part of the sporting event.

What is a spectator area?

A spectator area is an area set aside for or being used by spectators to watch an organised sporting event at a sports ground or other recreational area, but only when an organised sporting event is being held there.

Why is this new Act in place?

Public sports grounds are a popular public outdoor setting for exercise and recreation and often attract large numbers of people, particularly families with children. There is no safe level of exposure to second-hand tobacco smoke. This is the smoke which smokers exhale after inhaling from a lit cigarette. In adults, breathing second-hand tobacco smoke can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, lung cancer and other lung diseases. It can exacerbate the effects of other illnesses such as asthma and bronchitis. Exposing ex-smokers to other people’s tobacco smoke increases the chance of relapsing to smoking.

For children, inhaling second-hand tobacco smoke is even more dangerous. This is because children’s airways are smaller, and their immune systems are less developed which makes them more likely to suffer negative health consequences of second-hand tobacco smoke such as bronchitis, pneumonia and asthma.

Creating smoke-free outdoor areas, such as in public sports grounds and recreational areas, can provide a supportive environment for those who have quit and make smoking less visible to children and young people.
