WORKING WITH CHILDREN
Working with Children legislation requires that all people in clubs and organisations who come into contact with children under the age of 18 years must undergo a check and be approved to hold his or her position in the organisation.
As all our players are under 18 years of age, this legislation greatly affects our club and in fact most sporting clubs throughout the state.
There are a number of exemptions to the requirements. However, AFL Victoria has made it compulsory that all volunteers in all applicable football clubs meet the requirements. Details are contained in the attached PDF.
Once approved, an individual is provided with a card, which remains valid for a period of 5 years unless revoked.
Our club will ensure that all relevant people meet the requirements.
Naturally there are no costs involved for the affected individual.
Full details of how to obtain approval can be found at www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au.
Commencing in July 2013, it will be possible to complete your application on-line. It will still be necessary to attend an Australia Post Office with your photograph, but this process will now be far simpler. Details of on-line applications are provided on the website.
