Round 8 match reports by Stephen Marson
Under 19’s:
It was a tough day at the office for Northcote Park, as they were soundly beaten by Bundoora.
A first quarter of missed opportunities saw the Cougars kept goalless, and go into the quarter time break four goals down.
A goal from Ed Bui late on in the second term gave them their first and only goal of the game, as Bundoora were just the stronger side throughout.
The Cougars fought hard in the second half but were unable to stop the rampaging Bulls.
Reserves:
Northcote Park stuck with Bundoora all day but just couldn’t get over the line in a 16-point loss to the Bulls.
Both sides kicked three each during the first team, and it was only a late push by Bundoora before half time that saw them go into the main break with a three-goal lead.
Bundoora again outscored the Cougars during the third term, but a late Cougars run was on the cards to keep this match alive.
Rob Chadwick kicked his fourth to begin the final term, before goals to Janus Waldron and Tony Brizzi had the Cougars within striking distance. It wasn’t to be as the home side were overrun by a strong finishing Bundoora.
Special mention to Janus Waldron, Liam Waldron and Nik McNiece for stepping up and all filling in for the reverses.
Seniors:
Northcote Park were once again beaten by under a goal, in our first loss at home this season.
A sloppy first half for both teams scoring wise saw the Cougars lead Bundoora into the sheds up by only a point, 5.10 to 5.9. Inaccuracy was costing both sides, as straighter kicking could have already sealed the game.
It was in the third quarter in which Bundoora kicked away, as they snagged five goals to two for the term. It was only a 14-point margin at three quarter time, and Northcote Park set out to erase it early.
Two goals from Luke Svarc, and majors to Brock McLennan and Wayne Schultz had the Cougars in it, and a goal from Koden Colman with one minute left brought the margin back to four points.
Unfortunately the Cougars couldn’t find another, and suffered their second heartbreaking loss in as many games.
