Round 13 match reports by Stephen Marson
Under 19’s:
Northcote Park led until the final minutes before a Macleod goal right before the siren gave the Kangaroos a four-point upset win.
The Cougars took an eight-point lead into half time on the back of three fantastic Harrison Reid goals, and a Jake Murray goal on the run from the pocket.
Northcote Park added three more during the third term to lead by five points heading into the final change, as Macleod were doing just enough to stick with them.
It was a tense final term for the Cougars as Macleod had the majority of the ball for the entire quarter. The Kangaroos kicked the only goal of the quarter, which was enough to see them get the four points.
Reserves:
Macleod led at the end of every quarter in a close encounter with Northcote Park, as the Kangaroos managed to record a 10-point win.
Both teams had three goals to half time in what was an even encounter. Another three goals a piece in the third set up for a big last quarter.
Rob Chadwick was the only Cougar to goal in the final term, as he kicked his fourth of the afternoon. Macleod managed two goals in the fourth and gave themselves enough breathing space to go on and claim the victory.
Special mention to Daniel Brown, Zac Berra, Jake Murray, Harrison Reid, Tyson Old and Luke Merrett for backing up and filling in for the reserves.
Seniors:
14 goals to four after quarter time saw Macleod overrun Northcote Park by 52 points.
An impressive start by the Cougars saw Brock McLennan, Joel Donaldson and Lachlan Boscarini kick the first three of the game, to give the Cougars an early buffer.
The Kangaroos however kicked seven of the next eight to take a 21-point lead into half time.
Both sides managed 2.2 in the third term, meaning that Northcote Park needed a big final quarter to turn the game around.
It wasn’t to be as six goals to one from Macleod put the game to bed early in the quarter, resigning the Cougars to their sixth loss of the season.
