Match Reports: Lower Plenty
19s
You wouldn’t know our 19s were just a game below Lower Plenty on the ladder if you watched the poor first half we dished up on Saturday. Lower held us goalless and kicked 6.5 of their own in an insipid first half. Cam Simpson and Liam Waldron had a crack but finding a positive out of the first half effort was like finding a needle in a haystack.
After Andre Botoulos put through our first, on the back of a half time spray, we showed we were far from incapable of being competitive. In fact, we dominated most of the third quarter and kicked three goals but only won the quarter by five points.
An even last quarter saw Lower run out comfortable winners.
Simmo, Liam and Daniel Brown all had good games.
Reserves
After just a one point lead at quarter time, it seemed our Reserves were just beginning to kick away in the second. Dominance of play and an unbelievable Cam Taylor goal – which was one of six to his name for the day – put the writing on the wall for a big win.
But a nine point buffer turned into am eight point deficit at the last change.
A few minutes into the last, Robbie Chadwick got absolutely crunched in a courageous marking contest which proved a turning point in the game. He got a 50m penalty and kicked a huge goal. Squizzy’s sixth sealed the game with a few minutes to go. Lower kicked a goal in junk time to have the margin cut to just eight, but the game was done.
Squizzy’s probably never played a better game for the club, and Trent Fallon, Mick Naldrett and Chaddy all had standout games as well.
Seniors
A fast start that had us three goals to nothing up within the blink of an eye turned sour by quarter time. A win was absolutely essential to keep any hopes of finals alive but despite turning a one goal deficit into a one point lead in an even second quarter, the Seniors were still less than convincing against the bottom side. There was no real breakaway moment where the flood gates fell but we slowly begun to work our way on top. A 22 point lead wasn’t insurmountable for Lower and, especially after trading goal for goal early in the last, the game was alive. Classy goals to Bronik Davies and Jordan Collopy put us on the brink but still didn’t quite seal it. Mannon Jonhston teased the Northcote faithful when he hit the post, but about a minute later Ash Close took a mark 15 metres out and handballed to Koden Coleman in the goal square who sealed the game.
In the end we were 41 point winners after a couple of junk time goals.
Jordan Perry had the ball on a string, and Bronik, Mannon and Koden had great games as well.
