End of Season Report
Dear Members
2013 is now at an end, it has been a very challenging one for the club in many ways both on and off the field.
Sadly we lost a number of past players, committee members and friends. May they rest in peace and their memory live on.
The seniors started the year full of enthusiasm, with our new look training attire and pre-game guernsey's looking a treat, we were optimistic for a competitive year. On numerous occasions we lost games by under 2 goals. These games if won would have had an entirely different outcome on our ladder position. At times we mixed it with the best, we must challenge ourselves more and work harder. We have identified key areas for improvement and we will implement changes during the off season.
Thank you to Marcus Barham and all his assistants particularly Sam Tankard who does a massive amount of work recruiting.
The Reserves were very competitive and had their chances and at one stage were a mathematical chance to make finals. Thanks to Ben Tankard and all his assistants.
The 18's had a tough year but improved immensely towards the end of the season. Thank you to Tony and Doug who took on the job at the very last minute.
The top oval placed enormous pressure on the committee and volunteers. To set up each Saturday and Sunday for both seniors and juniors and pack it all away at the end of each day was draining to say the least!!
I would like to thank all the committee members who gave up their time and more importantly time from their families to do their specific jobs. It can be a thankless job at times but I assure you it does not go un-noticed. To all coaching staff of all teams from Seniors down to U10's, all the volunteers, team managers, trainers, medical, ground markers, runners, water people, time keepers, goal/boundary umpires, umpire escorts, thank you. We all do this for our kids.
To the wonderful ladies who run the uniform shop always with a smile on their faces. To Therese Willach and my wife for helping to organise functions in the top rooms. To my Mum, Kath, for washing table cloths, towels and jumpers, the canteen/bar staff and all who helped on meal nights.
Thank you to our magnificent sponsors both new and old, the club could not operate without your support.
It certainly takes a small army to keep this fabulous club running.
Finally congratulations to our U16/1 side who won their grand final and to the U16/4 and U14/1 for making finals.
Go Stars!!
Best Regards,
Bruce Runting
