NRL ratifies Sonny Bill deal

Dual international Sonny Bill Williams may have cleared a final hurdle to take up his one-year contract with NRL club Sydney Roosters.

NRL salary cap auditor Ian Schubert has finally agreed to register the contract, the Sydney Daily Telegraph reports.

It says Williams will officially become a Rooster - playing in the back row - by Friday.

The 27-year-old player, who won the Super Rugby championship this year with the Chiefs and the Rugby World Cup in 2011 with the All Blacks, confirmed five weeks ago he would return to rugby league by joining the Roosters next year.

The Telegraph reports that ratifying his contract was delayed because the NRL had wanted to include Williams' boxing prizemoney in the club's salary cap.

But the NRL has chosen not to do that.
