Football Round 6 Summaries
Seniors
Gisborne 22.22 - 154 def Kangaroo Flat 11.13 – 79
At Gardiner Reserve, which was resplendently decked out in pink to support The Breast Cancer Network Pink Sports Day, Gisborne Seniors notched up their third win for the year against Kangaroo Flat on Saturday.
With a fierce attack on the ball and coupled with hard running the Bulldogs started in great fashion and with the wind to their advantage were able to score 9.3 to Flat’s 4 points during the first quarter. Jamerson Campbell, fresh from his 7 goal haul in the Reserves the week before, continued his great form. Making the most of the excellent entries being supplied by mids Brendon Grech and Dan Toman, he kicked 4 of his 5 goals for the day during the term and in the process got the team away to a brilliant start. Anthony Belcher and Cam Medica also showed great leadership in the back line which contributed to Flat’s goalless first term.
The Roo’s must have copped a rocket at quarter time as they started the second term in a flurry kicking the first 3 goals for the term. The Dogs however regrouped and steadied and went in at the long break with a commanding 40 point lead. The experience of Jarrod Lynch and captain Casey Summerfield was showing out while young gun Ethan Minns was winning plenty of contested ball and distributing it well to team mates his team mates.
Darren Farrugia and Harrison Huntley were having solid games and in the third quarter Gisborne were able to maintain terrific scoreboard pressure by piling on a further 6 goals for the term while Flat were only able to manage 2. By quarters end Gisborne had extended their lead by a further 33 points to finish the term with an unassailable lead of 73 points. The lead in fact may have been greater if not for some inaccurate kicking by the Dog’s outfit.
The last term was a fairly even affair with both sides scoring 4 majors apiece however at the final siren, the scoreboard showed a resounding victory to the Dogs who were well served by by the likes of Lynch, Summerfield, Minns, Belcher, Medica and Grech on the day.
The Bulldog boys have been performing well over the last few weeks and are looking forward to the challenge of taking on the strong Strathfieldsaye Storm combination this coming weekend.

Reserves
Gisborne 18.11 – 119 def Kangaroo Flat 4.3 - 27
Gisborne Reserves saluted the judge as winners once again on Saturday with a dominant display against Kangaroo Flat at Gardiner Reserve on Saturday.
Once again, early scoreboard pressure was a key to the game with the Dogs scoring 4.5 to Flat’s 1 solitary point during the first stanza. Headberry was dominating as was Nightscales, who is showing the benefits of a huge pre season.
At quarter time, coach Benny Talbot implored his charges to maintain their work rate and pressure and as the quarter progressed the Dogs were able to extend their lead to 38 points by half time. Tim Hynson had the ball on a string and was gathering possessions at will, Jason Duff-Tyler was a focal point up forward and Lachie McKenna was showing that he does not necessarily need a cricket bat to be a star.
If the first half was the entrée, the second half was the main course, dessert and coffee all rolled into one. The Dog’s had their running game going like clockwork and the speed and precision with which they were able to move the ball was fantastic. They stacked on a further 5 goals to 1 for the term to put the game well and truly out of reach of Flat with Travis Thorogood and Neil Johnson both putting together great games.
The Dogs rolled their third quarter intensity into the final term to put the icing on the cake. As was the case in the third term, the Doggies were able to post another 5 majors while restricting Kangaroo Flat to 1 goal to eventually run out percentage boosting winners by a massive 97 points.
The Gisborne team were a very even and disciplined unit across all positions for the entire game. The backs were strong and aggressive all day and did not give the Flat forwards a sniff, the mid field were dominant at the stoppages, winning the one meter contests and then spreading hard once possession of the ball was gained and the forward all played in front, presented well and finished their work with accurate kicking. All in all, a great days work.

Under 18’s
Gisborne 24.8 - 152 def Kangaroo Flat 1.8 - 14
The young Doggies, with a near full strength side, were primed for the challenge against Kangaroo Flat with the theme for the day being "There is no I in TEAM".
In the blink of an eye, Flat managed to kick the first goal for the game however that was where the challenge started and finished with the Gizzy boys being able to apply adequate pressure through both the midfield and down back to allow for numerous forward entries and thus scoring opportunities. Dogs skipper Josh Govan was again at his dominating best and was joined by Baker, McKenna and Bond who revelled in the goal scoring chances that were on offer, to give the young Doggies the lead by 12 goals to 1 at the long break.
The half time message from the coaching staff was not to rest on your laurels and the Bulldogs delivered in spades. Trotta was again calm and polished off half back, O'Hare showed great poise on his wing and young Trent Crosbie was all over Flat like a cheap suit.
The Dogs closed the game out with a solid 7 goal third stanza and followed this dominant quarter with a further 5 goal last term to give notice that and they will be a force to be reckoned with this year.
Many happy returns to Darcy, Libba Logan and BJ who this week joined the “18 Club” and I am sure there will be some good stories to tell at training this week , however it is now onward and upward and looking forward to taking on Kyneton at the “Showgrounds”next Sunday in our bid to keep the winning streak going.

Round 6 Netball Summaries.
A Grade.
This week the two top teams Kangaroo Flat and Gisborne clashed at Gardiner Oval. Both teams went into this game under defeated and right from the start it was a hard and fast game with both teams going goal for goal. Gisborne took advantage of a few mistakes by Flat to give them a 3 goal lead at ½ time. a three goal lead at half time.
In the third quarter the Gisborne girls lifted a notch to score 18 goals to 6 and they were able to keep this momentum going in the last quarter to run out comfortable winners with a final score of Gisborne 51 to Kangaroo Flat 32.
A.Reserve.
This was a low scoring game and it was a battle of the defences, where the ball just travelled from one end to the other without many goals being scored. This was especially the case in the second half.
The teams were level at the first break 9 all and after the second term, Flat took a 2 goal lead into the ½ time break. The Gisborne girls played hard after the break and were able to bring the scores back to level at ¾ time with the score line showing 21 all.
Flat got their momentum going in the last quarter and scored the first 2 goals, giving them a lead that they never surrendered and ultimately the victory, with the final score reading Kangaroo Flat 26 to Gisborne 23. It was a very entertaining and good game to watch.
B. Grade.
The B Grade girls had their best start for the season and went into the first break 4 goals up. They kept working hard for the next two quarters however Flat managed to whittle their lead down to one goal by ¾ time. Going into the last quarter the Gisborne girls, knew it was going to be tough and a few errors by us allowed Flat to convert to and post a final score of 46 to Gisborne’s 43.
B.Reserve.
The girls matched it with Flat to be level at the first break. In the second and third quarter the girls went off the boil to give Flat a 14 goal lead. The girls worked hard in the last quarter to bring the deficit back to eight goals however unfortunately went down with the final score reading Kangaroo Flat 47 to Gisborne 39.
U 17.
Once again the U17 started slowly to be behind by 8 goals at the first break. You cannot give a quality team like Kangaroo Flat or any team a start like that as you are only playing catch up netball. To the girls credit, they bravely battled on giving everything however they could not quite make up the deficit. In the last quarter the girls got on a roll and played solid netball however they just ran out of time and fell just short. The final score showed a victory to Kangaroo Flat 47 to Gisborne 44.
