Round 8 Summaries 30-05-09
Reverse Draw
Thank you to everybody who supported the reverse draw and made it another successful fundraiser for our club. Congratulations to Craig Shelley, Lennie Jerliu and Stevie Jozwik who were big winners on the day. A big thank you to the 40 of the 56 senior players who supported the club from which many sold more than what was expected of them. Well done to the organisers and helpers for the day who continue to put in huge efforts for their club, Robbie, Lesa, Nadine, Wilber, Lozza, Greg, Quinny, Kristie, Mandi, Nicole B, Nicole G, & Johnny thankyou for your continued support. A special thankyou to our generous sponsor Johnny Martinu who donated some of the raffle prizes.
Memberships
Memberships need to be completely paid to take the field against Blue West next Rd. The club has given players plenty of time to pay them off so come and make payment to play football this week.
It’s a Girl
Congratulations Harbo and Rick on the safe arrival of Zarli Jade Bigham……….
Long time between drinks
Stevie Jozwik ran out with the reserves against Thomson last week after returning from injury. The last time Joza played was way back in 1993 which makes it 16 years between games and Joza one hell of a slow recoverer.
Club Website
Currently many historical photos are being added to the clubs website which require free website community membership to be viewed. Senior, Reserve, and U-18 B&F winners have been added between 1974 and 2008 and also Netball A grade B&F winners between 2002 and 2008. Many more historical photos will be added shortly including year, grand final, and premiership team photos from all agegroups and sections including many never seen before photos. www.coriodevils.vcfl.com.au
Netball Fundraising
Just a quick reminder to the Netball section about the Emu Fundraiser and Routleys Pie Drive currently underway. We need everybody to do their best and support these fundraisers as it takes a huge effort to run the Netball Section and every little bit counts towards paying for our season.
Volunteers
This week is Amanda Edwards who except for a short stint in Queensland has been volunteering her time for the Netball section since 2002. Currently Amanda has a huge Saturday every week with her hands full with coaching the Under 13s, Under 15s and C Grade Netball teams and if that wasn’t enough she also helps out Rossi on the bench for the A Graders. Amandas commitment to the Netball section and countless hours of volunteer work is very much appreciated by the club and we would like to thank her for all her ongoing service.

U\16 Vs Torquay 2 at home Corio 4-4-28 to 7-8-50
Goals: Jesse Edwards, Jake Manning, Neil McCreadie, Daniel McCulloch
Best: BJ Short, AJ Graham, Kuribino Angok, Neil McCreadie, Dylan Otoole, Dale Jakupek
U\14s V Torquay 2 at home Corio 16-18-114 to 1-0-6
Goals: Dale Jakupek 5, BJ Otoole 4, Justin Saddington 3, Cameron Emond 3, Jordan Tallentyre
Best: Ash Norman, Dale Jakupek, Jack Cleary, BJ Otoole, Brent Ryan, Kyle Connor Kent
The boys played a good brand of team football having winners all over the ground coming off 100 point victors in a promising win. Little Ash Norman played his best game for the year running hard for the entire game and showing no fear diving into packs and tackling opponents twice his size. The best thing about Ash’s game was how he brought his team mates into the game with quick little handballs from within the packs which he did time and time again. Man mountain Dale Jakupek dominated in defence, in the ruck, and eventually in the forward line where he took many strong marks, booted 5 goals and set up several other goals through team mates. Kyle Connor-Kent back from injury started back where he left off picking up possessions at will and playing a smart game of football with good marks, quick handballs and accurate kicking up the field. Jack Cleary was another little player who showed no fear getting into the packs and brought his team mates into the play with quick handballs and pinpoint passes to leading team mates. Chip off the old block BJ Otoole made the most of his opportunities slotting through 4 majors and Cameron Emond and Justin Saddington were other forwards who made the most of their chances slotting through 3 great goals apiece. Brent Ryan never stopped trying and was another player who was a standout for the match. The whole team deserves a mention as all the players contributed to the match which is good signs for what will be an exciting year for the U-14s.

Seniors Vs Thomson away Corio 8-8-56 to 21-14-140
Goals: Leigh Clifford 3, Troy Feldman 3, Shane Manning, Barry Otoole
Best: Barry Otoole, Jason Huhn, Shane Rogan, Ricky Otoole, Ricki Lazzarich
The seniors decimated with injuries were no match for Thomson and went down with more injuries and without a whimper with only half their regular line up available for the game. Bazza once again played well as did the ever reliable backmen Jason Huhn and Shane Rogan. Rick is his 300th played well himself but the game itself unfortunately will be one he will want to forget. Lazer was another who played well but with so few others and so many injuries the side didn’t stand a chance. Fortunately we now get a fortnights rest with the bye and hopefully after the break with a possible 12 players back for both seniors and reserves the seniors have another chance to turn around their season.
Reserves Vs Thomson away Corio 20-15-135 to 2-5-17
Goals: Leigh Cervanka 5, Jacob Neal 5, Shaun Gundry 3, Michael Baumann 2, Andrew Williams, Troy Feldman, Robbie Walton, Matthew Cullen, Ben Drayton
Best: Michael Baumann, Leigh Cervanka, Robbie Walton, Watson Taylor, Jacob Neal, Danny Tallentyre, Trent Hogan
The reserves had another massive win and considering so many absentees the victory was a good one. Bowy and Leroy dominated with Robbie, Scratcher and Danny also amongst the best. Good to see Watto and the much improved Hoges playing well for their team who are making the most of their opportunities. Overall the side is looking in a very strong position with another 12 players looking like being available after the break which will make all players have to fight for their positions over the coming weeks.
U\18 Vs Thomson away Corio 8-7-55 to 7-8-50
Goals: Chad Vanderlee 2, Josh Cleary, Daniel Lawerson, Ryan Loone Garcia, Daniel Scott, Dylan Taylor, Coby Zorkau
Best: Shaun Hastings, Chad Vanderlee, Gus Accheni, Daniel Scott, Daniel Lawerson, Corey Burke
The U\18s must like close finishes with their third final quarter thriller in 3 weeks. Nevada and Les have both gone grey and aged 10 years. Hasto at full back keeps on impressing as did new recruit Chad Van Der Lee who will be a bonus for the team. Consistent duo Gus and Scotty were once again amongst the best as was Daniel Lawerson who never stops trying. Corey Burke played his best game for the year and is another player who could be a player very important to his team if his confidence improves. The side needs a convincing 4 quarter victory and cant keep on relying on last quarter wins and one things for sure that Nevada and Les will be working out a way to do this.
U\12s Vs Modawarre away Corio 2-0-12 to 5-9-39
Goals: Michael Cadman, Kyle Otoole
Best: Dylan Shelley, Damian Norman, Brandon Otoole, Sheridan Stack, Corey Camilleri, Brian Devlin
U\10 Vs Modawarre away Corio 1-2-8 to 6-11-47
Goals: Connor Papazoglou
Best: Connor Papazoglou, Dwight Nielson, Bailey Maloney, Jacob Humm, Cruz Larkins, Liam Larkins
